Then Levtor gestured for the mayor and the others to board as well. The mayor finally could not help asking, "Your Excellency, what are we doing?"

Shevich glanced at him and offered only a terse reply. "Confusing the enemy."

The mayor gave him a puzzled look before the giant secretary hurried him into the carriage. Once Linsk had joined him, the door closed. After giving the coachmen some instructions, Levtor sent the carriages out of the manor.

After leaving the manor, the five carriages departed in different directions as Levtor had instructed. Some returned to town, some headed for the base on the island's eastern side, and others ventured into the vast mountain forests.

Only after watching the carriages leave did Levtor say to Shevich, "Your Excellency, this way, even if enemies are watching us, they won't know which carriage we're in."

"Most importantly, we aren't in any of them."
