When Odys got up on Monday morning, he found that thick fog still hung over the sea, even blotting out the sun.
It made him sigh. "It feels like I'm back in Backlund."
After breakfast, Odys made a circuit of the island.
After yesterday's victory, he no longer needed to give orders. The people of Krus Island held their positions as he had arranged and kept a careful watch.
They greeted Odys warmly whenever they saw him.
Once he had finished his inspection, Odys returned to the ship.
As he saw it, if the Deep Blue pirates had not launched another attack before dawn, there probably would not be another battle during the day.
So Odys wrote to the Queen Mystic, asking whether she would help him hunt the Trick Pegasus. He also warned her that there seemed to be unknown dangers.
The payment would be a Sequence 5-level Magical Item and a share of the spoils from the battle.
He added that the person who had provided the lead would also choose one piece of the spoils.
The Sequence 5-level Magical Item was, in fact, the payment promised by Admiral of Stars Cattleya—the "person who had provided the lead."
After some thought, Odys decided to wait before telling Bernadette that the information had come from the Admiral of Stars.
After all, he "didn't know" the exact nature of Bernadette's relationship with Cattleya, and Bernadette had never brought it up. He could make the deal with Cattleya first, then tell Bernadette who had supplied the information.
Otherwise, if the deal fell through for some reason, asking about Cattleya so early would look like an attempt to probe Bernadette.
Odys could not help thinking that knowing too much was not always a good thing.
Normally, that payment would not be enough
