At the Tarot Club gathering, Klein and the others found it strange. They did not understand why the Hermit had brought up someone of Antigonus's own kind named Amanises before introducing him.
Odys smiled faintly. That name could only be spoken in a place like Sefirah Castle. Outside, even if he said it, the other members would not hear it.
He was in no hurry to reveal who Amanises was. Instead, he began from another angle. "During the Second Epoch, the Annihilation Demonic Wolf controlled some of the higher-level Beyonder Characteristics of the Sleepless and Seer Pathways.
"The senior members of the Demonic Wolf Tribe generally belonged to one of those two Pathways."
Behind the Gray Fog, Klein felt as though something had suddenly clicked, but he could not quite put his finger on it.
Odys continued, "The Demonic Wolf Tribe was an extraordinarily powerful Beyonder race during the Second Epoch.
"Besides their god, the Annihilation Demonic Wolf, being one of the Ancient Gods, the tribe had many High-Sequence Beyonder creatures. Most were the Annihilation Demonic Wolf's subordinate gods or children.
"Among those subordinate gods were Amanises, the Goddess of Misfortune, and Kotar, the God of Wishes. Both were Demon Wolves. Salinger, the God of the Dead, whom we discussed earlier, was a Feathered Serpent."
Klein finally understood where the extra thousand pounds had gone: they had bought him an explanation of the Annihilation Demonic Wolf's subordinate gods.
Odys said, "I need to focus on Amanises, the Goddess of Misfortune. She will appear again later, and she plays a very important role."
He took a deep breath. "Amanises, the Goddess of Misfortune, later became the Evernight Goddess."
For a moment, every member of the Tarot Club seemed to turn to stone. An uncanny silence filled the gathering.
