Audrey, standing on high ground, noticed something in the sea rapidly rising to the surface.
Then she saw one cold, indifferent eye after another.
The icy gazes from those eyes put Audrey into a strange state. The sounds by her ears rapidly faded, and everything around her seemed to become unreal.
Those eyes swiftly drew closer, as though they had appeared right before her in an instant.
Everything before Audrey began to spin and distort. Just as she did not know how to resist, her vision suddenly shifted. All the eyes vanished, and the sound of wind, birdsong, and the priests' distant cries gradually returned.
Only after Audrey let out a sigh of relief did she realize that Odys was pinching her chin and turning her head in another direction.
She froze for a moment before remembering to pull away from Odys's hand. However, just before she could dodge it, Odys had already released her and gone to rescue Tim and Susie, who were similarly stiff all over.
Odys was not nearly as polite with those two as he had been with Audrey. He slapped Tim awake and kicked Susie to the ground, pulling them out of that nightmare-like state as well.
Odys immediately said, "Crouch down. Don't look toward the altar."
After crouching down, Audrey asked, "What were those eyes?"
Odys, the only one still standing and looking toward the altar, said, "A giant sea snail."
That giant sea snail was as large as two elephants! After rising from the sea, it looked like a small reef island had surfaced!
Its hard shell was covered in bronze-colored eyes packed closely together. Some were large, some small, but none had eyelids.
Every eye gave off an indifferent gaze. They felt like the eyes of zombies—cold and utterly devoid of emotion.
