Although the Wild Hunt medal from Morning Star City had formed naturally, I had fully analyzed its structure with the Pure White Eye, and its simulated effect in the White Tower had worked perfectly...
So why hadn't it produced a Mythical Creature Form? Why had it instead condensed a body for Panatiya, the Despair Nightingale?
And this Panatiya was stiff and wooden, less lifelike than a Historical Projection. She was like a Marionette, able to move only when controlled...
The problem was that the Spirit Body Threads I simulated couldn't actually control her. She belonged to a different system.
One controlled by voice through Spirit Speech...
So where had things gone wrong? Was the residual Demon Hunter psyche in the Wild Hunt unusual? Or did Panatiya have some intrinsic property?
After studying the Despair Nightingale closely for a while, Abner compared the differences between the two items bit by bit. Then inspiration struck, and he began to suspect where the problem lay.
Panatiya... was apparently killed by the Pale Flame Vincent breathed out after the Lord of the Dead took the form of a Feathered Serpent...
Ordinarily, dead spirits end up in the Underworld... But someone killed by Vincent's Pale Flame might not. Panatiya's soul may have been bound deep within Calderón City, near a tributary of the River of Eternal Darkness.
So every step of my attempt to replicate that item was sound. Things only went wrong when I tried to contact the dead-spirit imprint of the residual psyche corresponding to its characteristic in the Underworld...
Because Panatiya's soul never entered the Underworld after she died!
In simple terms, searching the Underworld's database didn't return her details. It only returned a "hyperlink"...
*That meant I couldn't reconstruct her Mythical Creature Form in reverse. I could only "print" a shell
