On Saturday, the atmosphere in the Backlund Nighthawks' office was tense.
Leonard Mitchell hadn't put his feet up on the desk as he usually did. He sat properly, his expression grave.
This was the second time he had encountered a case involving something behind Chanis Gate, and it stirred memories he had kept buried.
More importantly, he had met the supposed internal guard when it happened, yet he hadn't noticed anything wrong!
"The internal guard reported after waking that he never saw the intruder. All he knew was that a Wraith had possessed him," an arriving Red Glove told everyone in the room.
"How could a Wraith move around inside a church?" several Red Gloves asked, but no one had an answer.
Maybe that Wraith worships the Goddess... Leonard muttered inwardly. After discussing the case with the Red Gloves and the local Nighthawks, they identified their suspects and began investigating them. Leonard then made an excuse to visit the washroom. Lowering his voice as though talking to himself, he said:
"Old Man, you didn't notice anything unusual back then?"
The slightly aged voice echoed in his mind:
"I did... There was a peculiar aura about that person. A very ancient one..."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?!" Leonard had expected the Old Man to dodge the question. He hadn't expected such a straightforward answer today.
After a pause, he asked solemnly, "An ancient aura... Was it Viscount Abner Brain? Didn't you say that old friend of yours wouldn't cause trouble?"
"Of course it wasn't him..." Pallez chuckled in his aged voice. If Reinhardt wanted something from the Goddess's Church, would he need to steal it?
"Then who was it?" Leonard pressed.
"Didn't your discussion just produce a suspect? It was that Mad Adventurer, Gehrman Sparrow," Pallez said with a laugh.
