A beast's roar? The smell of blood... At this point in time... Was it that Devil Dog, or the beasts Lanevus fed with his divine blood?
With that thought, Abner stopped unbuttoning his clothes. After a moment's consideration, he decided to investigate, simulated Hiding in Shadows, and slipped out of the Safe House into the actual sewers.
Low growls rang out intermittently, so Abner only had to turn into two passages before he found the source of the sound and smell—
Three hideous beasts were gnawing on a corpse, while a slightly smaller one prowled around them, growling constantly. It wanted a share of the meal, but the other three kept blocking its way.
Farther away lay two dead rats of normal size. Their bodies were intact, but they showed no signs of life.
So they really were sewer creatures fed with Lanevus's divine blood...
The sight immediately confirmed Abner's suspicions.
He was just about to dispose of these mutated monsters when the beast circling the corpse suddenly sniffed, then turned toward his hiding place, its eyes gleaming with bloodlust.
Very keen senses... Abner marveled, but did not panic. A layer of deep black instantly stained his blue eyes.
Seven black flames began swirling around him.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The black flames shot out like bullets, one after another, toward the beast that had already lunged at him.
The beast seemed to have encountered the power of Black Flame before. At the sight, it abruptly halted its leap and desperately tried to turn aside, hoping to dodge those terrifying flames.
But after becoming a Polymath, Abner's imitated Sequence 7 abilities had improved considerably in both power and control. Even without activating the Pure White Eye, he could rely on his own abilities to make the Black Flames instantly change direction
