Only her memories of me were intact? What did that mean?

Abner was puzzled. He doubted it was because he mattered that much to Miss Judy.

They were friends, certainly, but only fairly good friends. However confident Abner was, he would never imagine he meant more to Judy than her parents or comrades did.

Her parents were family. Her comrades were people she could trust with her life. A friend she had known for only a few weeks, however well they got along, could not compare.

Yet this duplicate of Judy had received complete memories only where he was concerned...

After a moment's thought, Abner formed a tentative guess. Lacking proof, he set it aside and asked "Judy" another question:

"How did you know I was behind Weave?"

"From a fragment of memory... In it, Karen concluded that you'd taken over the Scented Leaf Bar," "Judy" replied.

So she really does remember everything involving me... Abner nodded thoughtfully, then asked, "It shouldn't have been hard to find out where I'm staying in Bayam. Why didn't you come to me directly for help?"

"My main body is with her. I can't go too far from it..." "Judy" gestured at their surroundings. "The people here have treated me well, but I have no memories of them, so I didn't dare trust them... At first, I only tested the waters by asking about the Detective. Fortunately, your subordinate came here as a spy, so I had a chance to send a message through him."

That explains it... This duplicate of Judy had memories only of Abner. She knew next to nothing about anyone or anything else, so of course she would be reluctant to act in unfamiliar surroundings...

Judy probably had not expected so much of the "memory" she sent to be intercepted.
