Abner stared at the milky-white die in Darkwill's hand. Only when he saw that the red six was facing up did he breathe a sigh of relief. He recalled how the original novel had described this Sealed Artifact, formed from the solidified Unique of the Wheel of Fortune.
"...The Dice of Probability.
"...The highest-grade Sealed Artifact within the Life School of Thought, meeting the criteria for Class 0.
"...It controls the probability of every event. When it shows one, the probability of an outcome unfavorable to its target is pushed to the limit. A two greatly increases the odds of an unfavorable outcome, but that doesn't mean a two is necessarily safer than a one. Once the probability rises, any kind of accident can happen. A three somewhat increases the odds of an unfavorable outcome. Four through six do the opposite.
"...To truly seal the Dice of Probability, a specific Sealed Artifact must be used to cut off its connections to the Spirit World, the Astral World, and the Real World..."
Arrodes had also said it was petty and held grudges. It could be frightened into submission, but each attempt would have less effect than the last, and after more than a week, it would retaliate with a vengeance. In Arrodes's words, it was not suited to being a loyal servant.
Abner had just reached that thought when Darkwill asked in astonishment, "How much medicine did you give her to leave her like this?"
At his words, little Boudi and Harry the owl turned their round eyes on Abner, as though they couldn't believe he was that kind of scumbag.
One widened her eyes; the other's had been that round to begin with.
*Is now the time to talk about Tracy? That die in your hand could leave us worse
