In the only tavern in Kabas Town, Wallace, the expedition's financier, briefly summed up the day's discoveries before giving everyone free time. He stressed, however, that they had to return before nightfall.
Then he went alone into the tavern's only guest room. He had paid the owner's son one Gold Pound to give it up.
Once he had sealed the room with his Spirituality, the young man wiped a hand across his face, revealing his true appearance: Abner's face!
Not long after Abner teleported to Kabas Town, he had noticed that the expedition's organizer carried the aura of a higher being. At any moment, Wallace might become a vessel for that being's descent.
After a little thought, Abner had "invited" Wallace into Alvin's Quiz Maze, trapping him there for the time being.
By now, Abner had confirmed that the Quiz Maze was made from a Beyonder Characteristic from another planet and stood on the level of an Angel. Even the Dragon of Imagination himself would have trouble getting out, since he was unfamiliar with that Pathway. A mere vessel had even less hope.
But the Dragon of Imagination, Ankewelt, deliberately placed Elizabeth and Dast on this expedition. He probably intends to use them as hostages to threaten Klein, doesn't he?
What a clever scheme!
But he doesn't understand human nature... or rather, he doesn't understand Klein...
Mr. Fool isn't someone who simply gives in when threatened. He might lose his nerve sometimes, but anyone who uses his friends like this had better be ready for his revenge!
Ankewelt really thinks he's clever...
With a faint sigh, Abner took out the Magic Mirror and had it use its Demon abilities to peer into the other expedition members' minds.
