Not long after Professor Morsaka, Elizabeth, and the others took shelter in the church at Abner's warning, they felt two terrifying presences descend without warning.
The ordinary members of the archaeological team fared well enough. But for Morsaka, a Sequence 8 Archaeologist, and Elizabeth, whose spiritual intuition was naturally keen and who had been exposed to the aura of a descendant of the God of Death, the experience was far from pleasant.
Elizabeth felt the blood stop flowing through her body. Her hands and feet turned cold, her mind went blank, and she lost all ability to think.
She had no idea how much time passed. When she regained consciousness, she found herself waking at a round table in the town bar.

The thought had barely occurred to Elizabeth when the heads of Mr. Wallace's bodyguard and attendant suddenly burst apart, spraying blood all over the two senior students nearby... It was exactly how they had looked after shooting each other in the head!
It wasn't a dream! It wasn't a dream! Elizabeth murmured. Remembering that Mr. Wallace had stayed behind to cover their escape, she hurriedly looked around, but the "organizer" was nowhere to be seen.
By then, Professor Morsaka had recovered as well. He went to the window and looked out at the quiet town streets. Realizing they had returned to reality, he wasted no time calling the stunned students and Wallace's two remaining attendants to follow him out of town.
As for Dast, he exchanged a glance with Morsaka and fell to the rear of the group, ready to guard against anything unexpected.
They made it all the way out of town without incident. Only then did they breathe a collective sigh of relief.
