Baimu leaned back on the sofa and slowly opened the notebook.
"The friendship we formed with Arceus led Him to generously share His power. Relying on that power, our ancestors were able to live and thrive peacefully upon this land..."
After the lengthy preface came the utterly incomprehensible main text.
He stared at the unfamiliar writing in the notebook, then went outside and found Barza, who was tidying the house. "Why did the old man write the main text in some kind of cipher?"
"A cipher?"
Barza looked confused. After glancing at the notebook, he asked, "You can't read it?"
Baimu glared at the man who had just said something so outrageous. "If I could read it, would I be asking you? Are you trying to amuse yourself first thing in the morning?"
Meray burst out laughing, wiping her hands as she said, "I'll teach you~ I'll teach you~"
From her, Baimu learned that the notebook had not been written by Ghris alone. It was actually an heirloom passed down through generations of elders in the Valley of Origin, and the writing used within was called the "Prayer Script."
It was said to be a language derived from Unown.
Unown?
Wasn't that basically English!
Uh.
The combinations were probably different from English, though. More like Latin or something...
Baimu cast aside his stray thoughts and focused on learning the ancient writing passed down through the Valley of Origin for a thousand years from Meray.
Naturally, words could have multiple meanings and had to be interpreted from context. Some of the more abstract passages stumped even Meray and Barza, forcing them to call Ghris for confirmation.
Fortunately, Baimu learned quickly. By the time the Porygon Phone had compiled a related vocabulary database, he had memorized nearly all of it.
