Seafloor Cavern

The miniature submarine had been descending for over a minute.

It still hadn't reached the seabed.

During its descent, its camera clearly captured many wild marine Pokémon.

Schools of Mantine and Mantyke swam past, accompanied by groups of Remoraid. The sight of them moving together in such numbers was spectacular.

A little deeper...

Qwilfish and Luvdisc swam by. Centuries ago, Qwilfish had still had a torpedo-like evolution, but in the modern day it no longer evolved. Strange. As for Luvdisc, Baimu had always thought it might be the simplest design in the entire Pokémon series.

Deeper still...

They had just about reached the seabed.

Clamperl opened and closed their shells, while Chinchou searched for food along the ocean floor.

Though the surroundings were pitch-black, they were peaceful and serene. Baimu felt as if he were watching a nature documentary, and his mind grew calm.

Then...

Yanagihara suddenly asked, "Do you mind if I speed this up?"

"Uh, go ahead."

"All right."

He pressed a key, and the footage sped up dramatically. Many of the fish Pokémon swimming past became fleeting dark shadows, while a faintly grating sound rose from the speakers.

How much had he sped it up?

Sixteen times? Thirty-two?

"Can you even see anything at that speed?" Baimu couldn't help asking.

"I don't need to see everything. I only need to catch what matters."

Yanagihara smiled. "Aren't we trying to find out whether the miniature submarine detected Lugia and deliberately followed its trail?"

"...Fair point."

Baimu had been so captivated by the vibrant underwater world that he had nearly forgotten why he was here. Fortunately, the International Police were professionals who wouldn't let the scenery distract them.

The video continued at high speed.

Someone thoughtfully brought over a chair. Baimu thanked them, sat down, and watched intently.
