It was the third day since he had caught Registeel.
He had arrived in Rustboro City at dusk the day before, when most boat rental shops had already closed, so he had spent the night in Meteor Village.
That morning, Doctor Hodaka had suddenly sent word.
Kieran had obtained a map of the ruins from an archaeological survey team and found the Desert Ruins where Regirock was sealed. Following the Ancient Braille inscribed there, he had successfully opened the ruins' entrance.
Unexpectedly, the survey team had followed him.
When Regirock burst from the ruins and fought Urshifu, a dodged Hyper Beam had accidentally struck the team watching in secret.
Amid the commotion,
Kieran and Urshifu had done their best to stay calm and shut out the distraction. They pressed the fight against Regirock, trying not to lose their chance to catch it.
But things had gone nothing like he imagined.
The more he tried to finish quickly, the harder Regirock fought back. And his luck really was terrible...
Five Poké Balls broke in a row. Regirock vanished into the Sandstorm it had whipped up and escaped.
With the survey team's condition unknown, Kieran couldn't pursue it. He had no choice but to give up.

Catching Regirock would only have been a bonus; all they had needed from the start was to gather information. Besides, Legendary Pokémon were notoriously hard to catch.
