From what Green knew of Lola, the first possibility was extremely unlikely. The second had two explanations of its own: either the enemy was so powerful that she had no chance to resist, or she had been drugged or caught by a similar spell...
Green considered this in silence, then sent Maxim to search the room carefully for any suspicious clues.
Meanwhile, outside the room's window, a glossy black raven perched on a branch and cawed twice. It looked like an ordinary bird preening its feathers with its beak, but its eyes never left the window.
Maxim was invisible, however. All the raven could see was Green standing motionless in the room, his face grim, with no sign of what he was doing.
Just then, Green turned sharply and fixed a piercing gaze on the raven through the window.
The raven seemed to startle. With a harsh cry, it flapped its wings to fly away, only for an icy chill to engulf it the next instant. Its body froze, its wings went rigid, and it fell. It had dropped barely half a meter when an invisible force caught it. A translucent woman appeared in midair, one hand closed around the motionless raven.
Expressionless, Green walked to the window, slid back the bolt, and opened it so the translucent woman could pass the raven inside.
