General Lukase was a veteran of countless battlefields. After his initial shock and panic, he was quick to realize what the enemy might do next.
He was also secretly glad he had left fifteen thousand fresh troops outside the city. At a critical moment like this, they could finally be put to use. He hurriedly sent them to build a defensive line north of Red Fortress and hold off the Kingdom Army's counterattack, which could come at any moment.
General Lukase then sent for the two High-Level Legendary powerhouses. He was certain Cyrabelle would personally lead the Kingdom Army back, and only those two could hold that Female Godslayer at bay.
He also had to stabilize the situation at Red Fortress. The explosion had been violent, but it could not have killed or wounded more than half the troops. Most of the Revolutionary Army stationed there should still be alive. What General Lukase needed most was to gather and organize them again. Only then would he have any hope of withstanding the furious counterattack Cyrabelle and the Kingdom Army were about to launch.
Orders streamed out of Revolutionary Army Headquarters, but Red Fortress had already become a vision of hell. Countless charred and mangled bodies lay scattered in every direction. The sickening stench of burned flesh hung in the air. The wounded moaned in pain, but no one came to treat them. They could only lie amid the rubble and slowly wait to die.
Those who had escaped unhurt, or suffered only minor injuries, ran about like headless flies, screaming in terror as they fled. The dreadful explosion and the hellish scene around them had frightened many out of their wits. Forgetting they were soldiers, they acted on instinct alone and made the chaos worse.
