Sinem stared at it all, at a loss. He had no idea how he had been drawn into this war. When a Kobold climbed a nearby siege ladder and charged straight at him, he instinctively wielded the spear in his hand like a Magic Staff and cast Bone Spikes. With a wet pop, a spike shot out and pierced the Kobold clean through from backside to crown.
But behind the Kobold, a stronger Gnoll suddenly leaped up from the ladder and brought a long blade crashing down.
That first Bone Spikes spell had helped Sinem recover some of his fighting instincts. He felt no danger facing the Gnoll. With a wave of his hand, he raised a Bone Shield before him, blocking not only the Gnoll's attack but also a heavy crossbow bolt fired from outside the wall.
Two heavy thuds rang out. The Bone Shield stood firm, then slammed forward, knocking the Gnoll off the wall. It fell more than ten meters and landed below. As a Formal-Rank Transcendent, the Gnoll suffered little harm, but it crushed three unlucky Kobolds to death.
Yet after driving back one enemy after another, Sinem frowned.
