Green and Hicaros entered an empty room beside the banquet hall that was used for storage. They were alone.
"What is it?" Green asked, narrowing his eyes. He had to be careful with this female spy.
"Having that thing in my head is uncomfortable," Hicaros said bluntly. "I figure you didn't kill me because you want something from me. So get to the point. What do you want? I can give you what you're after. Take the thing out of my head, and we'll stay out of each other's way. How about it?"
Green listened without giving anything away. Something struck him as odd. She could have said all this at any time, so why had she chosen this moment and this place? Was there a plot behind it, or some other purpose?
With that thought, Green activated the Eye of Spirit Sight and swept his gaze around the room, but found nothing unusual.
Hicaros noticed. She gave a cold laugh. "You really are cautious! Relax. I'm not up to anything else. I brought you here to settle this." She hesitated, then seemed to make up her mind. "This is your last chance. Name your price, but don't ask for too much."
Green looked at her in surprise, then said evenly, "Feeling bold all of a sudden because Duke Morissent has arrived? You think you've got someone to back you up?"
Hicaros looked helpless. "I don't want to involve His Grace Morissent. That wouldn't do me any good either. But if you push me too far, I'll have no other choice."
Green thought for a moment. "All right. I can remove the danger in your head. In return, I want intelligence. Don't try to fool me with that mixture of truths and lies you deal in. You get one chance.
