Background and History

Yixuan and her older sister Yijiang grew up as orphans in Chenghui Plateau before an elderly Daoist brought them to Yunkui Mountain. They trained together and became outstanding disciples. Yijiang took over leadership when their master became gravely ill, while Yixuan initially lived under her sister’s protection 218.

Their master’s use of the Azure Nether Sword exposed its cost: it erodes a wielder’s memories, senses, emotions, and ultimately life. When Yijiang began suffering the same backlash, Yixuan devoted herself to finding a cure. Yijiang sacrificed herself with the sword during the fall of the Old Capital before Yixuan could save her 218.

Yixuan succeeded her sister as sect master. Over eleven years of rebuilding, she helped Yunkui Mountain recover from near-destruction and developed the Azure Nether Method; she also sealed the Azure Nether Sword in the sect’s forbidden grounds. Under an agreement with the municipal government, the sect later returned to Weifei Land to help limit TOPS’s influence 201 205 217.

Yixuan has long silver-white hair and golden eyes. Her clothing includes a yellow shawl, and she is often accompanied by her Azure Nether Bird 177 217 245.

Personality

Yixuan takes Yunkui Mountain’s ideal of saving and protecting others seriously. She is willing to fight threats to Weifei Land, but refuses to endanger the whole sect to pursue her personal hatred over Yijiang’s death 200 204 252.

Her composure masks grief and self-doubt. After discovering that Elder Lu Hengzhou manipulated Ye Shunguang into becoming the Azure Nether Sword’s wielder, Yixuan blames herself for missing the conspiracy and Shunguang’s worsening memory loss. Hua challenges her to protect Shunguang without assuming she can decide Shunguang’s future for her 217 219.

She also has a mischievous side: she deliberately provokes Hoshimi Miyabi by pretending to be romantically interested in Wise, then treats their duel with conspicuous ease 245 246 247.
