The sky over the Land of Fire was clear that morning, but a hush hung over Konoha. News of Danzo had spread throughout the village.
Today was the day Danzo would be judged. It had little to do with the villagers, but ordinary people still hurried to spread the word: a former Senior Official was about to face severe punishment.
Most civilians felt uneasy, too. The only difference between them and the civilians elsewhere in the Land of Fire was that they lived inside Konoha.
By ten that morning, the conference room in the Hokage Building was full of Ninja. Danzo was not there. He remained locked in the building's secret prison.
He had been the Third Hokage's comrade and the Second Hokage's Disciple. He was owed at least that much dignity. If he were judged before so many Konoha Jonin, it was the Senju faction that would ultimately lose face.
The Third Hokage sat at the head of the room. Below him sat the Elders Council, now reduced to three members: Koharu, Shinsuke, and Ishihara.
A smile crept onto Ishihara's face. Danzo had made a disastrous move. Ishihara no longer needed to fear his retaliation.
He had spent a long time living in fear. Root was powerful, while he, despite being an Elder, had no real force of his own.
Elder Shinsuke said nothing. Koharu looked unhappy. One reason she had stepped down as Advisor was that she had not wanted Danzo's ambitions to grow until they could no longer be contained.
Yet matters had still taken a turn for the worse. Such a grave incident had occurred only a year after she resigned.
The Third Hokage swept his gaze across the room. "You should all have
