Ch. 881Mythic-grade talent—Command of Desire, Cursed Doll
Plot points and events
- Isaac, a monstrous being in an obsidian monastery, learns that Fish Abyss has declared a Civilization War against him, set to begin in one hour.
- Isaac summons help from the Fallen Abyss and receives a Cursed Doll. Its leaders see the coming clash as useful: either Fish Abyss dies, or the doll is destroyed, removing a dangerous problem they have failed to solve.
- The Lava Demon King doubts the plan and fears the doll’s soul-targeting curse, though he reluctantly accepts that Fish Abyss is likely doomed.
- Meanwhile, Yu Yuan studies memories taken from an eyeball summoned by the Blood Grand Duke, along with the Mythic-Grade talent Command of Desire. Mystic protects him from the memories’ mental corruption, but the memories remain fragmented around crucial points.
Character developments and interactions
- Isaac responds to the war challenge by seeking support and trusts that the Cursed Doll will give him an advantage.
- The Fallen Abyss leaders—the Lust Demon King and Lord of Conspiracy—treat the conflict as an opportunity to eliminate either Fish Abyss or the doll. The Lava Demon King is uneasy, worries about the curse, and privately would prefer Fish Abyss to win.
- Yu Yuan shows growing caution and curiosity. He suspects the memories’ gaps are tied to the source’s high Life Level, and believes he may need to reach Gold or Transdimensional Tier to understand them fully. The new talent also makes him more suspicious of Scarlet Hastur and prompts him to wonder whether the Blood Grand Duke was controlled by desire.
Significant themes
- Power and risk: Mythic abilities offer extraordinary strength but carry mental and existential dangers.
- Manipulation and desire: Command of Desire can exploit, alter, or erase what drives a person, raising questions about agency and control.
- Uncertain alliances: The Fallen Abyss’s apparent assistance is motivated by self-interest, while the outcome of the war could benefit them either way.
- Limits of knowledge: Yu Yuan’s inability to fully access the memories emphasizes that greater power and understanding remain beyond his current reach.
