History

Flowing Abyss was sealed within a collapsing secret realm alongside the Nine Revolutions Profound Origin Art. When Ye Chen attempted to draw it, the sword remained immovable until he smeared blood on its body and answered its three questions concerning his reason for cultivating, his treatment of the weak, and whether he would preserve his original heart if rejected by heaven and earth. After accepting his answers, it became a stream of light and branded itself between his brows. 36

While Ye Chen studied the cultivation art afterward, the brow mark pulsed with information that resembled Flowing Abyss's own memories, but he could not yet interpret it. 36 During seclusion, Ye Chen repeated the vows that had gained the sword's acceptance, prompting the initial awakening of its sword spirit. The System determined that complete fusion would require passing the third trial of the “Nine Questions of the Heavenly Dao.” 37

The sword's mark subsequently became an early-warning sense, detecting a concealed observer outside Ye Chen's protective barrier. 37 Ye Chen later used its resonance in battle against the Earth Splitting Rhinoceros, establishing that Flowing Abyss could augment his attacks even before full master recognition. 38

Flowing Abyss is a gray-blue sword with a cold, reflective blade. After binding to Ye Chen, it usually manifests as a warm mark between his brows, though he can wield the weapon physically in combat. 36 40
