Trapped in the Same Day for a Thousand Years: Madam, the Young Miss Ran Off with That Guy!
Welcome to Trapped in the Same Day for a Thousand Years, exclusively produced by Feilu Novel Network, written by Sang Ze and narrated by Wang Xiaomo and Lao He. "I'll run away with you!"
Su Qingying froze. She stared at Wu Chen in disbelief, her shock written all over her face. She looked even more nervous than before.
She wasn't just nervous. She was afraid.
Outside her home, she was the senior vice president of Jinfu Group, a capable, decisive businesswoman everyone expected to take over the company.
She seemed practically flawless. Her looks, family background, abilities, and upbringing were all beyond reproach.
But at home, she feared her parents, especially her mother.
It was the same fear that children of powerful families felt toward their family patriarchs.
In the Li Family, for instance, everyone except Li Ruobing feared the old patriarch, Li Ruotai included.
Even so, Li Ruotai's fear of his grandfather, and his desire not to disappoint him, had limits. Su Qingying was different. She had been controlled so tightly since childhood that she had developed a desperate need to please others.
Li Ruotai had made mistakes. He had even done things he knew were wrong, figuring he only needed to avoid getting caught. If he was caught, he could apologize and admit fault.
Su Qingying was different. She would not allow herself to make mistakes.
Usually, it was because she feared disappointing the people around her. At work, she feared disappointing the shareholders. At home, she feared disappointing her parents.
She had been so outstanding since childhood that nobody would tolerate a single flaw in her.
When Wu Chen said her mother was on her way to catch him—or rather, both of them—Su Qingying immediately imagined all the terrible consequences.
Her mother did not permit her to date freely. She was not even allowed to get too close to any man her age in private.
As Jinfu Group's successor, her future spouse would have to pass the family's scrutiny first. Only after they approved a handful of men they deemed worthy of Su Qingying could she choose among them. She had no freedom in the matter.
Given what she and Wu Chen had done at the Golf Course today, the Su Family would undoubtedly threaten and cajole him if they caught him. That alone would not matter much; they weren't dating. The problem was that the truth was even more frightening than a romance between them.
Su Qingying feared Wu Chen might reveal why she had come here—reveal that secret—under pressure. To her, the consequences would be devastating.
A dutiful daughter who had lived her whole life in the spotlight, a flawless darling of the family, was actually that kind of woman.
The higher she had stood, the harder she would fall.
Su Qingying truly did not know how she could face the people around her if the secret came out.
Wu Chen said they should run, but she was still afraid. She felt running would solve nothing.
Who was Wu Chen?
She had already used the Su Family's resources to investigate him. If she could find out who he was, so could her mother. Her mother would know who he was and find him.
Yet Wu Chen was not only planning to run himself. He was asking whether she wanted to come with him.
Su Qingying was stunned. Wouldn't that make everything even harder to explain? No lie could cover it up.
Knowing her mother was coming with people to find her, yet running off with a man anyway—it was something Su Qingying had never dared imagine.
"Do you plan to live like this forever?"
As though he knew what she was thinking, Wu Chen took her hand. "You're twenty-seven, not seven. You're an adult with your own mind and your own identity, not a puppet. Keep living like this and you'll end up depressed."
"But I..." Su Qingying understood what Wu Chen meant.
"Your mother will probably be here within ten minutes. I can get away, but have you thought about how you'll explain this to her?"
Wu Chen continued.
"I... I... I..." Su Qingying said it three times but could not go on.
"Let's leave first. We can avoid her, then figure something out. Once we've made arrangements, it'll be easier to explain when you go back."
"What else can I...?"
"Some things have to happen for the first time."
Wu Chen looked Su Qingying in the eyes again. "Just as you wrote in that forum post, living like this exhausts you. You should put down that burden and bravely take the first step."
"Do you want to keep suppressing yourself forever? To live for other people forever? Are your parents always right?"
"Do you really think you can run the company well someday if you stay like this?"
Wu Chen kept his eyes on Su Qingying.
One second. Two. Three. Wu Chen released her hand. "Forget it. I'm leaving."
With that, he turned to go.
He did not make it a single step. Su Qingying suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of his clothes.
Wu Chen turned to look at her.
"I... I'm coming with you!"
Su Qingying had to summon every scrap of courage to say it.
Once the words were out, the tension and panic in her face quickly gave way to composure. It was as though she had crossed some inner threshold and changed.
"We'll go together!"
Su Qingying said it again, as if to bolster her courage and firm up her resolve.
She took two deep breaths, turned toward the two bodyguards in the distance, and pulled out her phone.
It looked as though she meant to call them.
"What are you doing?"
Wu Chen pressed her hand down.
"I'll send them away."
Su Qingying turned to him.
"Don't you see? You're still afraid."
"You're still thinking about other people. You want to give them an excuse for losing track of you, and you're afraid to face them directly. If they try to stop you, you won't dare leave."
Every word struck Su Qingying to the heart.
He was right about all of it.
"Then what do you think I should do?" Su Qingying asked.
"Run," Wu Chen said.
"How?" Su Qingying asked.
"Like this." Wu Chen grabbed Su Qingying's hand and ran.
He meant it literally. They simply ran.
Su Qingying was yanked into a sprint.
She was in good shape. She had not liked exercise when she was younger, but she had taken to it in recent years and could keep up with Wu Chen.
They ran toward the exit on the far side of Section C of the Golf Course. The two bodyguards in the distance froze at the sight, then charged after them like madmen.
Wu Chen pulled Su Qingying to the exit, where a row of electric sightseeing carts stood parked. Anyone could drive them, or have Clubhouse staff drive them. The keys were left inside.
Wu Chen pulled Su Qingying into one, turned the key, and stepped on the accelerator. The cart shot forward.
The bodyguards sprinted over, got into another cart, and gave chase.
A few minutes later, the two reached the Clubhouse building and kept running.
Wu Chen pulled her through the lobby and into the large parking lot out front.
They got into his car. The Lamborghini's engine roared through the parking lot. The blue car reversed into a skid, shot along the driveway onto the main road, then swung around again and raced for the gate.
By the time the two bodyguards burst out of the building, the Lamborghini had already torn out of the Clubhouse grounds and vanished down the road.
The bodyguards were frantic. They stopped for a moment, and one shouted, "I'll get the car!"
Ye Feng ran off to the side. The other pulled out his phone and dialed with trembling hands. The call connected at once.
"Madam, the young miss ran off with that guy!" the bodyguard blurted.
Even his voice shook. "What did you say?" came the almost shrill voice through the phone.
The roads in the northern suburbs were in excellent condition, but there were few cars.
It was too remote for much traffic.
Wu Chen floored the accelerator. The Lamborghini surged forward with brutal force, passing two hundred kilometers per hour in less than ten seconds.
In the passenger seat, Su Qingying pressed her back against the seat and instinctively braced her feet.
Her heart had been pounding from the moment she sat down.
It was not because the running had exhausted her. It was the nerves and excitement.
She had never imagined she would run away with a man she had met less than an hour ago.
They had run hand in hand. For an ordinary girl, that might have been perfectly natural after love at first sight, or even after a successful blind date. For Su Qingying, it meant breaking a taboo.
Now the ever-rising speed sent adrenaline surging through her. She breathed heavily, her heart pounding harder still.
"Scared?" Wu Chen asked with a sidelong glance and a smile as he drove.
"N-no." Su Qingying's face had gone pale, but she insisted she was not afraid.
Even with no traffic, driving like this was terrifying.
Everything outside the side windows streaked backward in a blur. At this speed, the slightest mistake could kill them both.
Su Qingying was afraid, but not overwhelmingly so. More than anything, she found it thrilling. She had never experienced anything like it.
Wu Chen had driven at breakneck speed with Mu Qianqian before. She liked thrills too, but once it went too far and felt dangerous, she grew frightened and told him to slow down.
Su Qingying did not. The greater the repression, the stronger the backlash.
She was the sort of woman who could swing from one extreme to another. She had spent so long at one extreme that the more obedient she had been, the wilder she could become.
She had entertained plenty of thoughts of rebellion, but had never dared cross the line. Nearly everything had forced her to hold herself back, and the more she held back, the stronger the urge grew.
Su Qingying's phone rang. Despite the wind noise at this speed, she could still hear it.
She looked at the screen, and her expression changed drastically.
Wu Chen did not need to look to know her mother was calling. Su Qingying did not dare answer.
"Maybe you could try being yourself for one day," Wu Chen said, slowing the car.
Su Qingying glanced at him, then at the ringing phone. After hesitating a few more seconds, she gathered her courage, answered, and held it to her ear. "Mom, where are you?"
"Who's in the car?"
"A friend..."
"Su Qingying, what have I taught you?"
"A friend? When did you meet this 'friend'?"
"Do you even understand who you are?"
"Is he worthy of you?"
"Did I raise you all these years so you could run off with a man? Hand in hand, no less! Where is your modesty?"
"Where are your manners?"
"I'm so disappointed in you!"
"I'm telling you now!"
"Su Qingying, come back! Come back this instant!"
She had begun with cold, clipped questions, but after only a few sentences she erupted. She did not call Su Qingying "daughter" or anything of the sort; she addressed her by her full name.
Her voice was so loud that even Wu Chen could faintly hear it.
Su Qingying's eyes reddened at once. Her mother had not shouted at her like this in a long time because she had always been so obedient and accomplished.
Wu Chen slowed further until the car was traveling at sixty kilometers per hour. Then he reached over and lowered the window.
Wind rushed into the car, its roar carrying through the phone. Wu Chen glanced at Su Qingying, who turned to look at him. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Pretending you've gone mute?"
"Su Qingying, don't forget your family name!"
"You've done something so shameful! How will you face anyone?"
Wu Chen could still make out her mother's words. Shameful?
Running off hand in hand with a man was shameful?
In Su Qingying's mother's eyes, apparently it was. She came from a distinguished background and was deeply traditional and controlling.
Wu Chen glanced at Su Qingying again but said nothing.
Some choices had to be Su Qingying's alone. Only by deciding for herself could she truly let go.
"Mom, I'm a person. A living person, not your puppet."
"You—" Her mother's shrill voice drifted through the wind, then vanished.
As soon as Su Qingying finished speaking, she flung the phone out the window.
With the car moving forward, it struck the road more than ten meters behind them and shattered.
Wu Chen pressed the switch again and raised the window. He had slowed down and opened it precisely so Su Qingying could throw out her phone.
She had understood and made her decision. Once she did something for the first time, a second time became possible.
She had already begun to change the moment she decided to run with Wu Chen.
"I expect your mother will use every resource the Su Family has to find us," Wu Chen said with a faint smile.
"She's afraid of the embarrassment. She won't make a public spectacle of it," Su Qingying said. She turned to look out the window. Her spirits were low, but there was a trace of defiance on her face.
She had stopped understanding her mother long ago. Why could other people do things that Su Qingying could not?
Did she have to live as some exalted figure, without the slightest flaw? Her mother's expectations of her were impossibly high, and so were her demands.
"Aren't you afraid I'll kidnap you and sell you?" Wu Chen asked with a smile.
He was joking, of course. Given how well known Su Qingying was in East Sea, that was impossible. But his point came across.
Su Qingying understood. "Aren't you Li Ruobing's boyfriend?"
A man who knew my weakness, knew the real me, and had deliberately come to disrupt my life.
Su Qingying glanced at Wu Chen and said he wasn't a fool. On the contrary, he was highly intelligent.
In fact, she knew some of Wu Chen's actions hadn't been accidental—hitting her, for instance.
"Then why did you come out with me when you knew?"
Wu Chen wasn't surprised at all. After all, they had met because he knew her secret.
"What does it matter if I knew?"
Su Qingying answered, then turned back to the window. After a pause, she murmured, "No one has ever dared get close to me. I've always lived in the spotlight, alone. Everyone kept their distance, even some of my relatives."
"When I was little, they praised me. They said I was the best, the child who always scored a hundred."
"When I got a little older, they decided I was different from everyone else."
"Then I grew up, started a business, joined the company, and began working. They started respecting me, praising me, flattering me. Everyone flattered me. My father was busy with work, but he always said his greatest achievement in life wasn't Jinfu Group. It was raising me. He said I was his greatest achievement."
"He'd say that to anyone."
"At business banquets, birthday parties, even across the negotiating table. My mother wanted me to live up to the person she imagined I should be."
"She wanted me to be better, always better than I was yesterday."
"She wouldn't even let me have a second bowl of rice, because I couldn't gain weight—not even a little. She thought I had to be the most beautiful, forever."
As Su Qingying spoke, her eyes reddened again.
It was because Wu Chen knew her secret that she could tell him what was in her heart.
Wu Chen knew he was probably the first person she'd ever told these things to, and probably the last.
Su Qingying sniffed and fell silent for a moment. Then she turned to Wu Chen again. "I know you're doing this on purpose, but I also know you might be my only chance. And I feel comfortable around you. I really do."
Of course Wu Chen made her feel comfortable. He understood her too well.
He also knew why Su Qingying had walked straight into danger with her eyes open: she'd wanted to do this for a long time.
"I believe you made the right choice. It's better to change now than wait until things get so bad there's no cure."
Wu Chen smiled.
"Stop the car!"
Su Qingying spoke suddenly.
"Hmm?"
Wu Chen turned toward Su Qingying and stepped on the brake. The car quickly slowed to a stop at the roadside.
"You're Li Ruobin's boyfriend. You wouldn't dare tell anyone about the job competition, would you?"
"You're afraid Li Ruobin will find out, aren't you?"
Su Qingying kept talking.
As she spoke, she quickly unfastened her seat belt. Her breathing quickened. She leaned over, hooked an arm around Wu Chen's neck, and kissed him straight on the lips.
Wu Chen froze for a moment. This had come a little sooner than he'd expected. The backlash after such extreme repression really was frightening.
