Trapped in the Same Day for a Thousand Years: Come On, Say Something!

On an old street in East District, a blue Lamborghini had been parked outside an alley for hours. No one knew whose it was.

Wu Chen had been careful when he brought Su Qingying back. He had even stopped to buy masks before returning.

He wasn't afraid of the neighbors seeing him, but Su Qingying couldn't afford to be seen.

As the heir to Jinfu Group and the most beautiful woman in East Sea, Su Qingying was famous throughout the city. She had also been in the news frequently these past few days.

Because of the July 7 case, she had been appearing in public a lot lately. She couldn't let anyone see her face, so Wu Chen had bought two masks to avoid unnecessary complications.

It was past two in the afternoon. Wu Chen had brought Su Qingying back shortly after ten. Four whole hours had passed.

In the bedroom of Wu Chen's fifth-floor apartment, he was scraping candle wax off a small cabinet with a spatula. He had picked up the candle while buying the masks. It had burned so long that more than half of it had melted, leaving wax all over the cabinet.

After cleaning it, he picked up the rope from the floor, coiled it, and tucked it into the cabinet's lower compartment.

There was also a flyswatter in the drawer. It had already been in the apartment.

Although Wu Chen had moved out, he had only taken some clothes and toiletries. His place at East Sea Splendor had been ready to move into, so he hadn't needed to bring anything else.

Wu Chen had washed the flyswatter as soon as he returned, so it was clean.

Wu Chen went about his work. Behind him, Su Qingying was asleep beneath the covers. She usually took afternoon naps because they were good for her skin, but that wasn't why she had fallen asleep now. She was simply exhausted.

She slept soundly, a faint smile on her lips.

Wu Chen's phone suddenly rang. He picked it up, glanced at the screen, and answered. "They found their way to you?"

"Brother-in-law?"

"Uh, brother-in-law, you already know?" It was Li Ruotai.

Wu Chen gave a quiet hum and turned back.

Earlier, during a lull, Wu Chen had asked Su Qingying whether anyone else knew about the information she had dug up on him.

Su Qingying had said she destroyed it after reading it. She had been careful, afraid her parents would learn she had investigated a young man.

The issue wasn't that she had investigated someone. It was that the person she had investigated was a young man. She had taken every precaution.

Su Qingying had been able to investigate Wu Chen because he had texted her first, giving her his real-name-registered phone number. Her mother didn't have that number. She could find it by checking Su Qingying's call records, but that might not be where she started.

The obvious first lead was Wu Chen's blue Lamborghini. A check of the license plate would reveal its registered owner.

But the Lamborghini wasn't registered to Wu Chen. It was registered to Wang Zhuangyuan.

The ownership hadn't been transferred. Wu Chen was only driving it.

He didn't even need to worry about traffic tickets. Wang Zhuangyuan would handle them.

Su Qingying's mother would clearly find Wang Zhuangyuan first, but he wasn't going to give up Wu Chen's information easily.

Wu Chen understood these people so well that he could work out each person's response step by step.

"Zhuangyuan called me first," Li Ruotai said. "He said Mrs. Su found him and asked who was driving the car. He didn't know what to do, and he didn't dare tell her about you, brother-in-law, so he sent her to me."

"Then Mrs. Su called me too."

Li Ruotai briefly explained what had happened. Wang Zhuangyuan knew how to handle things. He treated Wu Chen with great respect, but he was closer to Li Ruotai and found some things easier to discuss with him.

"What did you tell her?"

Wu Chen asked casually, then looked back. He had heard movement behind him. Su Qingying had woken up.

Wrapped in the covers, Su Qingying blinked at Wu Chen with the gaze of a woman deeply in love.

They weren't in love, of course. Her gaze merely looked that way.

Because she was an M, what Wu Chen had done with her had completely changed how she felt about him and where he stood in her heart.

Wu Chen reached out and stroked Su Qingying's hair. She moved closer and rubbed her cheek against the back of his hand without making a sound.

She knew he was on the phone. "I told her you're my brother-in-law," Li Ruotai said. "I said you and my sister are practically getting married."

Then he asked, "Brother-in-law, what's going on?"

"The Su Family's been investigating you these past two days. My sister told you yesterday, right?"

"When Mrs. Su called just now, she sounded furious. I asked if you'd offended her, but she wouldn't say. She just wanted to find you."

Of course Mrs. Su wouldn't say. She would never allow any stain on her daughter's reputation, so for now she was only looking for Wu Chen. She wouldn't bring up Su Qingying.

"I even said she could talk to me about anything," Li Ruotai continued. "She refused and said it had nothing to do with Li Jia, only with you, brother-in-law."

"Then she hung up," Li Ruotai finished.

"Mm. All right, I know," Wu Chen said.

"Brother-in-law, what exactly is it? Hey, you don't have to hide anything from me. If there's trouble, I'll back you up. We're family. No need to be polite."

"It's nothing. Just a small problem." Wu Chen smiled. "Do you really think anything will happen to me?"

"I know you're capable, brother-in-law, but this is strange."

"Enough. Stay out of it. You won't be able to handle this. I'm hanging up."

"All right, then."

Wu Chen ended the call. Everything had gone as he expected.

As soon as he put down his phone, two notification tones sounded in succession. He picked it up again and saw two missed-call alerts.

While he had been speaking with Li Ruotai, someone else had tried to call. It was Li Ruobing.

Li Ruotai had probably called Li Ruobing after speaking with Mrs. Su.

Wu Chen doubted Mrs. Su would call Li Ruobing herself. After learning that the man who had taken her daughter away was Li Ruobing's boyfriend, she wouldn't immediately call to accuse her. She would start doubting her own judgment.

Accusing Li Ruobing's boyfriend of luring away another woman could make the matter public, which Mrs. Su wanted to avoid. More importantly, Li Ruobing wasn't someone who would put up with her. If Mrs. Su said anything unpleasant, Li Ruobing would tear into her.

Mrs. Su held considerable standing in East Sea. After all, she was the wife of its richest man. When she married Su Ruiwen, he had been wealthy, but nowhere near as wealthy as he was now. Most of his current assets were therefore marital property.

Su Ruiwen also respected and adored his wife. Mrs. Su was educated, and she had helped his career greatly over the years.

Mrs. Su could call Li Ruotai directly to ask what was going on without taking her anger out on him. She wasn't that foolish. Even if they exchanged harsh words, they could make peace afterward.

Li Ruobing was different. A clash with Li Ruotai wouldn't necessarily offend him for good, but if Mrs. Su went after Li Ruobing, she would truly offend Li Ruotai.

Wu Chen had just finished reading the messages when his phone rang. It was Li Ruobing's third attempt, and this time she got through.

Wu Chen answered.

"A Tai called me," Wu Chen said first.

"What's going on with you?" Li Ruobing asked, sounding puzzled rather than angry.

"How did you get involved with the Su Family?"

"From what A Tai said, it sounds like you offended them. They were quietly investigating you yesterday, and today they called A Tai directly to ask about you."

"You want to know?" Wu Chen asked with a smile in his voice.

"If you're willing to tell me," Li Ruobing replied.

She knew Wu Chen would never tell her something he didn't want to share.

"Mm. Hold on." Wu Chen turned to Su Qingying and offered her the phone. "Come on, say something."

Su Qingying froze. Wu Chen wanted her to say something? She had heard him take two calls, but she didn't know what the people on the other end had said.

Wu Chen's side of the conversations hadn't revealed anything important. "A Tai" alone wasn't enough for her to identify anyone, so she had no idea who was on the line.

In truth, she hadn't paid much attention to what Wu Chen said on the calls. She heard a little, then promptly forgot it.

It had nothing to do with her. She only wanted to enjoy today.

Su Qingying wasn't the only one caught off guard. Li Ruobing had heard him too.

"Come on, say something." Someone was with Wu Chen.

"It's fine. Go ahead." Seeing Su Qingying look at him, Wu Chen gave her a reassuring smile.

"Say what?" Su Qingying asked softly.

Li Ruobing heard a woman's voice. "Whatever you want."

"Don't worry. She knows who you are," Wu Chen said.

Su Qingying blinked and glanced at the phone. Then she asked Wu Chen softly, "Honey, who is it?"

Was it really all right?

She had spoken quietly, but the phone was right beside her.

Li Ruobing heard "honey."

There was a woman beside Wu Chen, and that woman had called him honey.

She had no idea how many times Su Qingying had called Wu Chen that over the past four hours.

"Why don't you ask her?" Wu Chen said with a laugh. "It's fine."

Su Qingying finally took the phone and cleared her throat.

"Hello."

The drowsy softness was gone from her voice. Her tone was formal and polite.

"Who are you?" Li Ruobing asked bluntly, her voice cold.

"Who are you?" Su Qingying frowned and asked in return, turning to Wu Chen.

He gave her another reassuring smile.

"I'm Li Ruobing."

Li Ruobing didn't beat around the bush. Su Qingying's hand shook, and she nearly dropped the phone. She sat bolt upright beneath the covers and stared wide-eyed at Wu Chen.

"Who are you?" Li Ruobing asked again.

She had given her name, but Su Qingying had fallen silent without giving hers.

"Oh, Miss Li." Su Qingying took a deep breath and quickly steadied herself. Still sounding polite, she said, "We've met before, at a business reception."

"Who exactly are you?" Li Ruobing asked again.

"I..." Su Qingying took another deep breath. She was reeling and terribly nervous, though she could usually hide it well.

"I'm Su Qingying," she said. She admitted it because she understood that Li Ruobing knew another woman was with her boyfriend, while the Su Family was looking for Wu Chen. One quick investigation would lead Li Ruobing to her anyway. Denying it would be useless. Worse, if Li Ruobing lost her temper and came after her with people in tow, she could do anything in her anger. Su Qingying might be in real trouble.

But knowing she was Su Qingying made that less likely. She was Su Ruiwen's daughter and the heir to Jinfu Group. Anyone who wanted to touch her would have to think twice, especially in East Sea.

Su Qingying couldn't understand why Wu Chen had been bold enough to let his girlfriend learn there was another woman beside him. It was madness.

Wasn't Wu Chen afraid of dying?

He was the one who had asked her to speak, and she couldn't make sense of it.

But she was certain that now Li Ruobing knew who she was, nothing would happen to her. Wu Chen was the one in serious trouble. He had dared to cheat on Li Ruobing!

After Su Qingying gave her name, the other end fell silent. Li Ruobing was stunned, though Su Qingying had no way of knowing that.

"Miss Li, are you still there?" Su Qingying asked into the silence.

"Are you Su Qingying?" Li Ruobing asked again.

"Yes."

"Why are you with Wu Chen? What's your relationship?"

"We're friends. We're discussing work," Su Qingying replied evenly. She was so nervous that she had forgotten she'd called Wu Chen "honey" a moment earlier. It had slipped out naturally, and she had overlooked it.

She still wanted to cover things up. If she could fool Li Ruobing, so much the better.

"Friends?"

"Yes, friends. Miss Li, is your boyfriend not allowed to have friends? If so, we won't meet again."

"Friends? You called him honey. Who are you trying to fool?"

"Uh..." Su Qingying's nerves showed plainly on her face.

"Miss Li, you must have misheard. I never called him that."

"You didn't?"

"Miss Li, do you think I'm that kind of woman? Why don't you think back carefully?"

For a moment, Su Qingying even made Li Ruobing doubt her own hearing. Everything Su Qingying had shown the public, and the reputation she had built, seemed at odds with the situation now.

But on reflection, Li Ruobing knew she couldn't have misheard. "Perhaps I did."

Keeping her emotions in check, Li Ruobing said, "Sorry, Miss Su. I didn't mean to interrupt your discussion. Please give the phone back to Wu Chen."

Su Qingying relaxed a little and handed the phone to Wu Chen.

"Finished?" Wu Chen put the phone to his ear. "Where are you?"

"At your old place?" Li Ruobing asked directly.

"Yes," Wu Chen replied.

"Don't leave. Don't you dare leave!" Li Ruobing hung up.

Wu Chen glanced at the phone, smiled, and set it on the cabinet beside him.

He could guess why Li Ruobing had told him to stay. She was about to rush over and see what was going on for herself. Things should get interesting when she arrived.

"Aren't you afraid she'll find out?" Su Qingying finally asked, looking startled and confused.
