Ah Yin understood Spirit Beasts far better than that so-called Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang. It would be no exaggeration to call her the person who understood Spirit Beasts best in all of Douluo Continent.
If she said this pangolin Spirit Beast had Poison Resistance, then it absolutely did.
If she said it could escape in one second, then it would take no more than one second.
"Is it completely immune to poison?"
Chu Xiu asked carefully.
Ah Yin shook her head.
"Spirit Beasts are different from Soul Masters. Almost every Spirit Beast with Poison Resistance relies on its own immune system to neutralize toxins. In other words, the poison takes effect inside its body first and is only neutralized afterward. That process can be long or short."
"A thirty-thousand-year Pangolin would neutralize poison quickly. If your stink bomb is only as strong as Luo Sanpao's, it'll hold it for half a second at most."
Chu Xiu frowned. "Only half a second?"
The Numbing Stink Bomb would hold it for half a second, and the pangolin would need another second to escape.
That gave them just a second and a half to attack.
In so little time, an ordinary person could run ten meters at most. It was nowhere near enough for Shui Bing'er to rush in from a distance and kill the pangolin with the Bone Dagger.
"The window's too short. I'll have to lie in wait within five meters."
Shui Bing'er spoke gravely.
"No."
Ah Yin rejected the idea outright. "The Pangolin's senses are keen. Forget five meters—even if you hid twenty or thirty meters away, it could easily detect you."
"Unless you have a Concealment Ability. But you can't hold a weapon while concealed."
"So..."
Ah Yin looked helpless.
She sincerely wanted to help Chu Xiu hunt the Spirit Beast, but as things stood, the conditions simply weren't in their favor.
Shui Bing'er grew discouraged too.
She turned to Chu Xiu and asked,
"Chu Xiu, do you have any ideas? If not, we can only take the Golden Sword Fruit for now and come back for this Spirit Beast when we're stronger."
The pangolin might not be a Spirit Beast that excelled at fighting, but it was still thirty thousand years old.
Chu Xiu was the strongest of the three, yet even he could, at best, hold his own against a thousand-year Spirit Beast.
The gap was simply too vast.
Chu Xiu was frowning in thought when he caught sight of the Golden Sword Fruit beside them. His eyes lit up.
"Who says I have to carry the weapon?"
Chu Xiu said smugly. "The Pangolin obviously came out of the mountain for this Golden Sword Fruit. If I put the Bone Dagger beside it and conceal myself nearby..."
"Then, when it approaches the fruit, I can suddenly grab the dagger and stab it. Wouldn't that work just as well as carrying it?"
Realization dawned on Shui Bing'er.
"Right! You don't have to carry the weapon. You can just leave it somewhere the Spirit Beast is bound to pass."
"How did I not think of that?"
[Shui Bing'er's reliance on you has deepened. Bond Value +5] [Current Bond Value: 90]
Chu Xiu paused. His Bond Value had gone up again.
Just ten more points, and his Second Soul Ring would be his. With the Ice Phoenix and the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, he would have the strength to fight other Soul Masters even on Douluo Continent.
"Let's hide the Bone Dagger first. Right beside the fruit will do."
Chu Xiu did not hide the Bone Dagger on the ground.
The pangolin's innate talent allowed it to sense the earth's veins. Whether the Bone Dagger lay on the ground or was buried beneath it, the creature would easily find it.
The Golden Sword Fruit was sword-shaped and about as long as the Bone Dagger.
Placed together, the dagger and the Golden Sword Fruit looked like two fruits growing from the same stem. Strangely, nothing about it seemed out of place.
Once that was done, the three of them withdrew.
They concealed themselves fifty meters from the Golden Sword Fruit.
That was already a considerable distance. However keen the pangolin's senses were, it could not detect them from so far away.
Hidden from view, the three began a long, tedious wait.
Who knew how much time had passed when Ah Yin's soft moans suddenly broke the silence.
Shui Bing'er glanced to the side and was left speechless.
That scoundrel Chu Xiu couldn't stop fooling around even at a tense moment like this.
"Stop. Hurry, stop. It's coming."
"That fast? You're so sensitive, Ah Yin."
"No, the Pangolin is coming."
Ah Yin lowered her voice and pointed ahead. "That way, about five hundred meters out. It's moving fast. Hurry and get ready."
Only then did Chu Xiu understand.
It wasn't Ah Yin who was about to come. It was that thirty-thousand-year pangolin Spirit Beast.
He hurriedly withdrew his wandering hands, tore the leaves off his body, and entered Concealment.
Shui Bing'er sighed helplessly, but still said with concern, "Chu Xiu, be careful. If you don't get a chance, don't force it."
"Don't worry."
Chu Xiu chuckled. "It's just one little Spirit Beast. I'll have it in the palm of my hand. We can pick up where we left off when I get back."
"Pah! I'm not picking up anything with you."
Shui Bing'er gave a soft snort.
Chu Xiu then vanished on the spot, concealing even his scent.
Meanwhile...
Five hundred meters away, a three-meter-long pangolin had just crawled out of a hole at the foot of the mountain.
Ah Yin's senses were limited to open areas, though plants extended their range. The creature had been hiding inside the mountain, so naturally she had not sensed it before.
Perhaps it knew the Golden Sword Fruit was about to ripen. The pangolin moved in a hurry and soon appeared in Shui Bing'er and Ah Yin's field of view.
"That's it, the thirty-thousand-year Spirit Beast. I wonder if Chu Xiu's ready."
Shui Bing'er grew nervous.
She could not see Chu Xiu while he was concealed and had no control over what happened next. All she could do was hope he could deal with the Spirit Beast himself.
The pangolin pressed on, drawing closer and closer to the Golden Sword Fruit.
When it saw what looked like two fruits on one stem, confusion flickered in its dull little eyes.
What was that?
How had a Silver Bone Blade appeared beside the Golden Sword Fruit?
"Confused?"
Chu Xiu's voice sounded right beside the pangolin, mere inches away.
Almost before his words faded, a stink bomb exploded right in front of the pangolin's nose.
Pfft!
A cloud of murky, foul-smelling gas instantly engulfed the pangolin's enormous head. As it inhaled the Numbing Stink Bomb, its body went briefly numb.
At almost the same moment, Chu Xiu's naked body appeared.
His right hand was already gripping the Bone Dagger. While the pangolin's immune system was still working to neutralize the poison, he drove the dagger forward with all his strength.
Shing!
An ear-piercing slicing sound rang out. The Bone Dagger plunged through the pangolin's right eye with such force that even Chu Xiu's right hand drove into its eye socket.
The Bone Dagger reached its brain.
One strike, one kill!
The thirty-thousand-year Spirit Beast did not even have time to scream before its massive, three-meter-long body crashed to the ground.
