Power Progression

Background / History

Spirit Hall selected Chu Xiu from a remote mountain village after his exceptional awakening. He instead became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple. For twelve years, his impressive-looking island Martial Soul could not absorb a soul ring. Yu eventually neglected him in favor of Tang San, then severed their master–disciple relationship. Chu Xiu’s subsequent outburst coincided with the Martial Soul reaching adulthood and activating as Survival Island 1.

Chu Xiu brought Ning Rongrong, Qian Renxue, and Shui Bing’er to the island. With everyone’s Soul Power sealed, he organized their search for water, food, tools, and shelter. He later killed an owl Soul Beast while shielding Shui Bing’er, suffering a chest wound that Spirit Rice nearly healed overnight 2 3 4 16 21.

After Ning Rongrong’s bond with him reached 100, Chu Xiu gained his first Spirit Ring and returned to the continent to test his copied skills. He then used the newly available survivor slot to bring Ah Yin to the island, where she appeared in human form 24.

Personality

Chu Xiu is resourceful and willing to take risks for valuable supplies, but retreats or seeks help when a threat exceeds what he can handle alone. He protected Shui Bing’er from the owl even though its attack nearly killed him 12 15 16.

He also treats bonds as a route to power and conceals his ownership of the island from the other survivors. He lies about his origins and abilities when questioned, and his pursuit of Ning Rongrong continues after she says she is not ready and asks him to stop 5 16 19 23. Yu Xiaogang’s rejection and Tang San’s hostility fuel his plans for revenge 1 20.

Abilities & Skills

Survival Island Martial Soul

Chu Xiu can bring selected people to his Martial Soul’s island. Reaching Bond Value 100 with a survivor lets him copy their Martial Soul, rings, skills, Soul Power, soul bones, and combat experience; each eligible survivor can provide a Survival Island Spirit Ring 1 24.

• At level 30, he could bring three other survivors; reaching level 41 opened a fourth slot 1 24.
• Martial Souls, Soul Power, soul bones, and similar abilities are suppressed on the island. Survivors cannot bring belongings or survival tools 1 2.
• Chu Xiu can return to the continent at will. A fellow survivor can return once their Bond Value reaches 100; if Chu Xiu dies, the others remain trapped 1 16 20.

Identification of Mutated Resources

Chu Xiu sees prompts identifying unusual island resources and their effects, an advantage he hides behind a false claim that his eyes are a Body Martial Soul 5 8 16 19.

• A mutated Wild Apple more than doubled his strength; its effect was limited to one fruit 5.
• He found an antidote herb for Ning Rongrong’s snakebite and Spirit Rice that heals injuries and restores stamina 8 14 16.

Owl Core Perception

After consuming the Core of a 13,000-year-old owl Soul Beast, Chu Xiu gained Extreme Long-Distance Vision and Sound Wave Perception. These abilities function on the island despite its suppression of Martial Souls 18 19.

• On the continent, his vision resolved a mountain roughly 500,000 meters away 20.
• Sound Wave Perception mapped moving and stationary objects within roughly 1,000 meters, though he could not process all the information at once 20.

Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda

Copied from Ning Rongrong at Bond Value 100, the pagoda has four Spirit Rings. Its skills can support up to seven people at once 24.

• The first, second, and fourth skills boost strength, speed, and defense respectively by 50 percent 24.
• Chu Xiu cannot use the third skill on himself; he has not yet tested whether his support skills can boost his other Martial Souls 24.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

• Netherworld Wolf leg-bone dagger — made from a recovered skeleton; Chu Xiu used it to kill the owl Soul Beast 13 16.
• Colorless Glazed Stone lens — fashioned with the group to focus sunlight and start their first fire 22.
• Owl Core — consumed to gain long-distance vision and sound-based perception 18 19.

Relationships

• Yu Xiaogang — former teacher who dismissed Chu Xiu after twelve years without a soul ring; Chu Xiu vows revenge 1 20.
• Tang San — former junior fellow disciple and rival; Chu Xiu overhears him express a longstanding desire to kill him 1 20.
• Ning Rongrong — survivor whose bond with Chu Xiu reaches 100, enabling him to copy her powers 8 24.
• Shui Bing’er — survivor Chu Xiu saves from the owl; her Bond Value reaches 80, but has not reached 100 by Chapter 24 16 17 24.
• Qian Renxue — survivor and practical ally whose questions make Chu Xiu wary that she suspects his identity 5 11 22.
• Ah Yin — fourth survivor selected by Chu Xiu; she arrives in human form and initially believes he may have revived her 24.
