The first faction was Spirit Hall's Golden Generation.
Leading them were three young, gifted Spirit Masters: Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan.
Hu Liena was the personal disciple of Bibi Dong, the pope of Spirit Hall. Naturally alluring, she had mastered the art of enchantment.
Xie Yue was her older brother. With a pair of Moon Blades in hand, his fierce blade work was unmatched.
Yan was a gifted fire-type Spirit Master with a fiery temper and contempt for everyone around him.
The three led an elite Spirit Hall force of fifty into the depths of the Star Dou Great Mountains to hunt a ninety-thousand-year Spirit Beast.
The second faction was from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
Their leader was a sect elder, a level seventy-three Soul Sage, accompanied by more than a dozen elite disciples.
As one of the upper three sects, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had wealth and strength to spare. Naturally, it would not pass up a ninety-thousand-year Spirit Beast.
The third faction consisted of covert agents from the Heaven Dou Royal Family.
Rather than set up camp in plain sight, they hid themselves and waited for an opportunity.
On the surface, the three factions coexisted peacefully, but each had its own plans.
None wanted the ninety-thousand-year Spirit Beast to fall into anyone else's hands.
They watched one another with wary eyes.
Then a Gale Heavy Truck roared in from the distance and pulled up beside the camp.
Lu Yuan jumped down, stretched, and surveyed his surroundings.
Compared with the steep mountains ahead, this spot was flat and close to water. It really was a good place to camp.
He planned to rest there for the night, then take a look around the Star Dou Great Mountains in the morning.
His arrival, however, immediately drew everyone's attention.
The black Handcart was impossible to miss.
Its streamlined cab, three enormous turbochargers, and twelve rugged tires radiated a raw, industrial power.
Nothing else like it existed anywhere on Douluo Continent.
Yan was the first to react.
He had been roasting meat beside the campfire. When he saw the Handcart stop, he froze for a moment, then gave a scornful laugh. "Well, look at that! Another one here to die."
He stood and strode over to Big Luck. Wearing a mocking grin, he circled the vehicle, his contempt growing with every step.
"So this is the famous 'Handcart'?" Yan slapped the cab, producing a couple of loud thumps. "I thought it'd be something impressive! Turns out it's just a heap of scrap metal for a Handcart Martial Soul! Hahaha..."
After throwing his head back in laughter, Yan spotted Lu Yuan in the driver's seat. When he saw Lu Yuan's mere two Spirit Rings, he laughed even harder.
"You came here with only two rings? Hahaha... A kid like you dares come this deep into the Star Dou Great Mountains? What, are you here to deliver dinner to the Spirit Beasts?"
His laughter naturally drew the others over.
The elite Spirit Hall disciples crowded around Big Luck, pointing, commenting, and laughing.
"So that's the famous 'Handcart Martial Soul'? Doesn't look like much."
"I heard his first Spirit Ring is ten thousand years old, and his second is a hundred thousand. Wonder if it's true."
"Of course it's not! He must be making it up. How could a Spirit Master with two rings kill a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast? He couldn't even absorb a Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Beast's ring as his first!"
"Bet he just got lucky and picked up someone else's leftovers. He's probably all talk."
The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect disciples came over too.
They were less brazen than Spirit Hall's people, but they could not hide the disdain in their eyes.
"So that's the boy who drives the Handcart? He doesn't look like anything special."
"Zero Innate Soul Power and a Handcart Martial Soul. How has he even survived this long?"
"Maybe there really is something unusual about him. Master Yu Xiaogang did go and verify it himself."
"Yu Xiaogang? That worthless theorist? You believe what he says?"
The chatter rose and fell, buzzing around Lu Yuan's ears like flies.
The system had specifically concealed Lu Yuan's Soul Power. No one else could sense it, so they still thought he had none.
Yan's laughter grew louder. He even propped a foot on Big Luck's cab and looked at Lu Yuan provocatively. "Hey, kid. How much can this junker haul? Could it carry a thousand-year Spirit Beast? Want me to test it for you?"
Lu Yuan leaned against the driver's seat, chewing on a blade of grass. Expressionless, he glanced at Yan.
He did not get angry. Instead, he said politely, "I'll slow down, but I won't swerve. You know the rules. If you keep standing there showing off, don't blame Big Luck for running you over."
The crowd paused, then burst out laughing.
"He'll slow down but won't swerve? Hahaha! What's this kid babbling about?"
"Who does he think he is, a Titled Douluo?"
"He's killing me! A kid with two rings thinks he can lay down rules for us?"
Yan doubled over laughing and slapped the cab. "All right, all right... You're tough! Let's see if you can still walk out of these mountains tomorrow."
Lu Yuan could not be bothered to argue. He had come because he had heard there was a ninety-thousand-year Spirit Beast in the mountains.
He had no intention of dealing with these small fry. It would be beneath him.
Then Lu Yuan rolled up the window again, leaned back in his seat, and closed his eyes to rest.
Seeing that he had stopped talking, the others lost interest and gradually drifted away.
Only Hu Liena looked back at the Handcart before leaving.
Her brow furrowed slightly. For some reason, she sensed something about the boy that she could not put into words.
It left her faintly uneasy.
At dawn the next day, the sky had barely begun to brighten.
Lu Yuan started Big Luck and drove into the Star Dou Great Mountains.
His route was brutally simple.
He ignored the roads and headed straight for wherever the Spirit Beasts were thickest.
Where there were more Spirit Beasts, he went.
Wherever the commotion was loudest, he charged.
It was almost as though he had come sightseeing rather than hunting Spirit Beasts...
Scouts from all three factions followed him at a distance.
They wanted to see what this arrogant kid was capable of.
But as they followed, they witnessed a sight they would never forget.
On the first day, Lu Yuan drove straight into a settlement of thousand-year Spirit Beasts.
A pack of roughly forty or fifty Ironback Gray Wolves lived there.
Their leader was a Wolf King with three thousand years of cultivation.
Ironback Gray Wolves were known for their ferocity and unity. Even Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts were reluctant to provoke them.
Lu Yuan floored the accelerator and sent Big Luck charging in.
Big Luck tore through the pack.
The wolves' claws, fangs, and attacks struck the vehicle, but not one left so much as a scratch.
Every time Big Luck hit a wolf, it screamed and flew away, bones shattered and tendons torn. It died on the spot.
In less than fifteen minutes, the forty or fifty Ironback Gray Wolves had either died or fled.
Big Luck even rammed the Wolf King into a wall so hard it was embedded there. By the time anyone could have pried it free, it was dead, and the Cargo Box sucked it inside.
