Background / History

The Uchiha and Senju were bitter enemies during the Warring States Period before becoming Konoha’s two most important founding clans. The Uchiha later took charge of the village’s police force 36 514 517 229.

After the Nine-Tails Incident, the clan was moved to Konoha’s outskirts. Members reported curtailed police authority, Root surveillance, and suspicion directed even at their children. Danzō encouraged that distrust through provocative patrols, incidents blamed on the Uchiha, and rumors connecting the Sharingan to the Nine-Tails; Hiruzen later acknowledged that his failure to stop him had helped close off peaceful negotiation 36 37.

At Naka Shrine, many clan members demanded a coup. Clan head Fugaku warned that rebellion would bring civil war, while Shisui sought a settlement with Konoha. The elders grew increasingly willing to challenge Fugaku’s restraint. Naraka also nurtured resentment and fear within the clan, and Izumi found evidence that it had escaped an old Uchiha seal 36 41 42 47 52.

After Shisui’s death and the demonstration of an enhancement device, Fugaku ordered the clan to leave Konoha rather than seize it. Preparations for a breakout were overtaken by the massacre: Itachi killed clan members while Obito attacked the Military Police Force. Danzō separately confronted the four elders. Sasuke was spared 49 51 60 61 63 64 65 66.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan

• The clan’s inherited ocular power aids perception and anticipation in combat. A Warring States Uchiha unit uses it to read Boruto’s Shadow Clones and intercept them through coordinated attacks 36 561.
• Awakening and developing the eyes can be difficult: the trauma of the massacre initially gives Sasuke only a one-tomoe Sharingan 65.
• The Mangekyō Sharingan appears among several members, including Fugaku and the four elders. Its abilities differ by user; Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami can alter a target’s will without their awareness 47 51 66.

Fire Release and coordinated combat

• Uchiha fighters use Fire Release, including Fireball Jutsu, alongside weapons and other ninjutsu. A Warring States unit combines sustained attacks with precise formation changes 48 561.
• Sharingan perception does not remove physical limits: Danzō’s speed and Wind Release overwhelm the aging elders despite their ability to see his attacks coming 66.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

• Pig Talisman — A clan heirloom that strengthens visual powers; the four elders combine it with a forbidden technique to awaken Mangekyō Sharingan 66.
• Enhancement device — Supplied by the Paradise Organization and used to temporarily strengthen eligible Uchiha fighters 50 60.
• Millennium Key — A key passed down through the clan for its secret treasury. The elders’ final seal prevents it from opening the treasury directly 95.
• Naka Shrine stone tablet — Records Uchiha history and teachings. Its opening text requires the Sharingan to read, while later portions reportedly require the Mangekyō 406.

Relationships

• Senju clan — Former Warring States enemies and fellow founders of Konoha 36 514 517.
• Konohagakure — The clan’s village and home of its police force; discrimination, surveillance, and plots against it eventually break that relationship 36 37 58.
• Fugaku Uchiha — Clan head who tries first to prevent a coup, then orders an escape to preserve the clan 36 51 60.
• Shisui Uchiha — Mediator who seeks a peaceful resolution; his death removes a central hope for reconciliation 36 49.
• Naraka — Demon that feeds on resentment and secretly intensifies the clan’s conflict 41 47 52.
• Shimura Danzō — Root leader who helps isolate the clan, kills Shisui, and engineers its extermination 37 53 57 58.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• The Canopy Screen’s massacre account: Its broadcasts expose both the clan’s internal divisions and the outside manipulation behind its destruction, changing Sasuke’s understanding of whom to blame 36 42 58 75.
• Sasuke’s attempt to change the past: Sent back to his childhood, Sasuke seeks allies and tries to improve relations between the Uchiha and Konoha before the massacre can occur. Danzō interprets even his outreach as evidence of a clan plot 228 229 230 231.
• Warring States encounter: A battle-hardened Uchiha unit attacks Boruto’s group. Its crest and familiar techniques leave Hikari feeling estranged rather than reassured 560 561.
