At that moment, inside the Military Base in Ninghang City.

Bai Yu was using the base's testing equipment to measure her physical fitness. To her surprise, every result was more than fifty percent higher than during her last test.

"How could this be?"

Confusion showed on her face.

She could hardly believe her physical fitness had improved so dramatically overnight.

"Bai Yu, what are you doing?"

Liu Qian suddenly opened the door and came in, looking at her curiously.

"Nothing."

Bai Yu shook her head, then asked, "Why are you still awake so late?"

"Ugh... how am I supposed to sleep with everything that's going on?"

Liu Qian sighed helplessly. "I've somehow become someone's target. Talk about rotten luck!"

"Have you asked your aunt? She might know something," Bai Yu suggested.

"I did. She told me not to worry," Liu Qian replied. "She said the Ninghang City Investigation Bureau is doing everything it can to track down whoever's behind this."

"Come to think of it, there did seem to be two new Investigators at the Safe House." Bai Yu recalled seeing unfamiliar faces at the Military Base that day.

"I hope they find something. My luck has been awful~" Liu Qian sighed. "I'm not cut out to be a Police Officer. Why did I ever take a post in Ninghang City? I'm such an idiot!"

"Don't overthink it. Once they catch the person behind this, you'll be safe," Bai Yu said softly.

"Ah, I'm so jealous of those Investigators~" Liu Qian clasped her hands, her voice full of admiration. "If only I had a Superpower like they do~ Then I wouldn't have to spend every day hiding~"

"A Superpower..."

Bai Yu fell silent.

Just then, a figure drifted quietly into the room and asked in a soft voice:

"What makes you think being an Investigator is easy?"

"Miss Li Hongyou?"

Both women looked toward Li Hongyou, who was hovering in midair.

"Is something wrong at this hour?" Bai Yu asked.

"I came to inform you," Li Hongyou said calmly, looking at Liu Qian. "If we encounter a threat we can't handle, I'll evacuate you immediately. The Investigation Bureau just gave the order."

"Only me?" Liu Qian quickly took Bai Yu's hand. "If that happens, can you take Bai Yu too? She's my best friend!"

"One extra person won't be a problem." Li Hongyou shrugged. "Not that I expect anything unusual to happen. They're just a bunch of Zombies."

"May I ask..."

Bai Yu stepped forward and looked at her earnestly. "Are you very strong?"

A confident smile curved Li Hongyou's lips.

"Yeah. I'm super strong."

White Sea City, Third District.

"F-grade Anomaly alert! All personnel, stay sharp!"

"Quick! Everyone to the shelters!"

"A monster! There's a monster!"

"Run!"

Under the Police Officers' direction, the people of White Sea City made their way into nearby shelters.

Not far away, a monster made entirely of rock was rampaging through the streets, destroying everything in its path.

Two Investigators had reached the scene, but neither could stop the enormous creature.

"Damn it! My flames can't hurt it at all!"

The younger Investigator fired fist-sized fireballs from his fingertips, but they struck the rock monster as though they were barely tickling it.

"Ma Hao! Aim for its eyes! I'll hold it off!"

The older Investigator roared, raised his specially made shield, and charged the rock monster.

"Stop right there, monster!"

Putting all his strength behind it, he slammed his shield into the monster's right leg.

Bang!

With a deafening crash, he smashed its right leg to pieces!

"Nice one, Master!" Ma Hao shouted excitedly.

But before the words had left his mouth, the shattered leg pieced itself back together in an instant, good as new!

Almost at the same moment, the monster swung a massive fist at the shield-bearing Investigator, sending chunks of rock flying with it!

Boom!

The tremendous force hurled the Investigator dozens of meters away. He crashed through a house and disappeared beneath the rubble.

Fear spread across Ma Hao's face. "How could this happen...?" he murmured.

After bringing down the shield-bearing Investigator, the rock monster ignored Ma Hao. Instead, it took great strides toward the fleeing crowd.

No... I have to stop it!

But...

My flames...

Ma Hao stood frozen, struggling with himself.

His flames couldn't hurt the monster in the slightest. They couldn't even leave a mark!

Right!

That monster must be immune to fire!

Against it...

I'm no different from an ordinary person!

"I can't do it!"

Trembling, Ma Hao fell to his knees and squeezed his eyes shut, his will to fight gone.

The instant he closed his eyes, the ground shook violently!

Then deafening cheers erupted from the crowd.

"She's incredible! Is she an Investigator too?"

"The Investigation Bureau must have seen those two Investigators couldn't handle it and sent someone stronger!"

"Is she a knight? She's so cool!"

"Look! She has glowing bunny ears on her head!"

The clamor jolted Ma Hao out of his daze.

He slowly opened his eyes. In the distance, the rock monster had been reduced to a pile of rubble.

Beside it stood a Female Knight in white-and-gold armor. Golden flames danced around her as the crowd cheered.

"Who is she?"

Ma Hao stared in disbelief. "Wasn't that monster immune to fire? How could she...?"

"It wasn't immune to fire. You simply haven't mastered your power yet."

A voice sounded beside him.

Ma Hao turned. A man wearing a Slime Mask had appeared at his side without him noticing, supporting the middle-aged Investigator who had been sent flying.

"Master!"

Ma Hao hurriedly took his injured master from the man and anxiously checked his wounds.

"He's only unconscious. His life isn't in danger," Bai Xuan explained calmly.

"Thank you!" Ma Hao said quickly. Then he couldn't help asking, "Was what you just said true? I couldn't beat that monster because I don't know how to use my power yet?"

"Yes."

"Then... could you teach me? Please!" Ma Hao pleaded.

"That power is yours. In the end, you'll have to work out how to use it yourself," Bai Xuan replied evenly.

He wasn't good at teaching others to use superpowers, but if a few words could restore an Investigator's confidence, he was willing to say them.

Teaching someone...

I'd rather not.

I have to work it out myself... Ma Hao sank into thought.

Just then, Xilin returned to Bai Xuan's side and reported quietly, "Master, the Rock Golem has been eliminated."

"Good. Let's head back."

Bai Xuan had just turned to leave when a familiar voice reached his ears:

"Someone's hurt over here! Get them to the medical station!"

"Huh?"

Bai Xuan looked back in confusion and saw Liu Qian, dressed in medical clothes, standing in his line of sight...
