Surprise flashed across Bai Yu's and Liu Qian's faces once more.

Neither of them had imagined that the formidable, mysterious female knight had a master.

While they were still puzzling over it, a man in a detective's hat approached Li Hongyou with a smile. "Miss Li Hongyou, why didn't you come to the bureau first? I could've had someone prepare a welcome for you!"

Li Hongyou turned toward him. "I had another task to handle," she replied coldly.

"As expected of the most outstanding junior Investigator in the White Sea Investigation Bureau! You can even handle two investigations at once!" The man looked impressed. He edged closer and added respectfully, "I'm Huang Xin. The bureau sent me to assist you. Whatever you need, just say the word."

"..."

Li Hongyou gave Huang Xin a cool glance. "Hurry up and find out who has the thing Xu Yan brought into Ninghang City. If you don't, a lot of people will die."

With that, she rose into the air and flew into the depths of the night sky. Her figure soon vanished into the darkness.

"She just flew away!" Liu Qian cried, staring after her in amazement.

"That's Li Hongyou for you!"

Huang Xin grinned and declared with exaggerated enthusiasm, "She's number one among junior Investigators in White Sea City... No, wait! In all of Huaguo! Forget other juniors—even some intermediate Investigators can't beat her!"

"She's that strong?" Liu Qian's eyes widened in disbelief.

"You bet..."

Bai Yu did not join the conversation. She fell silent, gazing up at the glittering stars as countless thoughts stirred within her.

The next day, Bai Xuan slept until ten.

He turned his head and saw Xilin stretching as she flipped through a comic book.

"Morning."

"Morning."

After greeting Xilin, Bai Xuan went into the bathroom for a quick wash.

When he came out, Bai Yu was nowhere to be seen in the living room.

That was hardly unusual. For a peace officer, overtime was routine.

And it was precisely because Bai Yu was so busy that he dared to keep a beauty hidden at home.

Bai Xuan boiled himself a bowl of dried noodles, ate a few bites, then opened the world quest interface.

With help from this public-spirited citizen, the number of calamities in Ninghang City was gradually falling. Only three red dots remained, still flashing.

Once he cleared all those quests, Ninghang City could enjoy a spell of peace.

The remaining Anomalous Calamities were all fairly difficult, though. Only one was F-rank.

Bai Xuan muttered to himself, then looked toward Xilin, who was reading her comic.

Although Xilin wore that snow-white, form-fitting bodysuit, it was hardly something she could wear out every day.

After a moment's thought, he asked, "Xilin, want to go out together?"

"A quest?" Xilin set down her comic and looked up at him.

"No. I just want to take you shopping for some everyday clothes," Bai Xuan explained.

"..."

Xilin considered it for a moment, then nodded lightly.

"Before that, you can wear some of my sister's clothes."

With that, Bai Xuan got up and went into Bai Yu's room to borrow a few things.

They were about the same height, both around 172 centimeters, so her clothes should fit Xilin.

He picked out a jacket and a pair of casual pants.

When Xilin tried them on, they were a little tight but fit well enough.

"Let's go."

Bai Xuan took Xilin out.

Before leaving, Xilin brought her Lightless Sword.

Before long, the two arrived at a nearby mall.

Bai Xuan led Xilin into a women's clothing store.

After writing down the address, Bai Xuan looked over at Xilin, who stood before a fitting-room mirror.

She gazed at her reflection, slightly lost in thought.

"What's wrong?" Bai Xuan asked softly as he approached.

"It's nothing..." Xilin shook her head as if coming out of a daze. After a pause, she said quietly, "Thank you for your generosity. This is the first time I've had new clothes since becoming a holy knight."

"Huh?" Bai Xuan froze, then asked, "Since becoming a holy knight, you've only ever worn that one holy garment?"

"Yes." Xilin nodded. "His Holiness the Pope had it made especially for me. Apart from bathing, I haven't taken it off since I was five."

"???"

Bai Xuan had no words.

The holy garment could clean itself, but wearing it for more than ten years straight was still outrageous!

At least give her a spare!

That pope was far too stingy!

Before they knew it, evening had arrived.

Bai Xuan bought Xilin two everyday outfits, two pairs of shoes, and a loose-fitting set of pajamas.

As they carried their shopping bags back to his place, a black sedan drove past and caught his attention.

"Hm?"

Bai Xuan followed the black sedan with his eyes and silently memorized its license plate.

The reason was simple: he had caught the scent of a corpse being inside the car.

Li Hongyou happened to spot Bai Xuan and Xilin by the roadside, but she merely glanced at them and paid them little mind.

She could not help looking at Xilin's figure a few more times, though. Then she gave a cold snort.

"Hmph. Nothing but a useless buildup of fat."

"Miss Hongyou, we only managed to capture this infected person so smoothly because you stepped in," Huang Xin said with a smile as he drove. "Once we get back to the bureau, we'll pry the location of that thing out of him."

"I hope so." Li Hongyou folded her arms. "I wouldn't be surprised if you got nothing out of him."

"How could that happen? Don't worry!" Huang Xin hastily waved a hand and smiled. "We have a thorough interrogation process. We're sure to learn something this time."

Li Hongyou said nothing more. She stared silently out the window, seemingly lost in thought.

When Bai Xuan got home, Bai Yu still had not returned.

He sat down on the sofa and opened the world quest interface again.

The calamity situation in Ninghang City had not changed. The only update was a notice that the Sunlight Slime had weakened after sunset.

As soon as Xilin put on her armor, Bai Xuan activated the teleportation array.
