Inside an unknown maintenance duct aboard the Watchtower space station.

Link's figure slowly took shape out of the void.

Cold alloy walls surrounded him, threaded with a maze of energy conduits that gave off a faint hum. The air smelled of ozone and metal, a scent peculiar to things built for space.

He had entered the gods' hall like a ghost who did not exist.

"Everything looks normal. Aegis's data stream is extremely stable. It even helped us fix some latency issues on the public channels."

Cyborg Victor's synthesized voice reached Link through the thick wall, muffled but audible.

"Maybe we really did misjudge him?"

That was The Flash, sounding cautiously relieved.

A silent sneer tugged at Link's lips.

He closed his eyes and pushed his senses to their limit.

His Kryptonian superhearing let him pick out every sound aboard the station: the heroes talking, instruments running, even the faint groan of a screw strained by metal fatigue.

His supervision let him see through the walls. The station's entire interior lay before his mind's eye like an exquisitely detailed three-dimensional blueprint.

These guardians who fancied themselves gods had no secrets from him.

Link began to move.

He made no sound. Like a phantom melting into shadow, he slipped through the narrow duct.

Ahead, an invisible grid of high-energy lasers sealed the passage. Anything with mass that passed through it would be sliced into atoms in an instant.

Link walked straight through without so much as a glance.

An instant before his body touched the lasers, an unseen layer of Chaos Force enveloped him. Beams hot enough to melt a starship's armor met that layer of "nothing," passed straight through as though he were not there, and raised no disturbance at all.
