Background and History
Link awakens in Arkham Asylum with memories of the body he inhabits: a Chinese exchange student, also named Link, who was committed after witnessing a gang shootout. His own soul comes from another world. The God-Level Check-In System activates in response to his will to survive and offers rewards tied to special targets 1 358.
After escaping Arkham, Link and Harley Quinn raid Penguin’s warehouse for money and weapons, then recruit Spike’s Viper Gang. Link turns their growing underworld force into Chaos Direction Security and Venture Capital, using its legitimate business front, intelligence network, and technology projects to expand his reach. He eventually controls more than 60% of Gotham’s underworld, but finds that victory less satisfying once meaningful resistance disappears 13 14 17 37 46 68 72.
Link moves beyond Gotham to challenge figures such as Lex Luthor and Superman. Successive check-ins give him Kryptonian, Olympian, and other powers, which he learns to combine through Chaos Force. He then builds a spacefaring force, takes Knowhere from the Collector, and pursues the Infinity Stones 80 107 154 155 201 220 238.
After defeating Thanos, Link uses all six Stones to impose a universe-wide edict against hunger, disease, and natural disaster. His rule inspires reverence, but Bruce Wayne and Steve Rogers organize a resistance that initially escapes his attention. Link ultimately learns that the system chose him for a greater cosmic purpose. Remembering Harley’s sacrifice, he undertakes the Ultimate Check-In, begins becoming “One,” and preserves fragments of her soul within the Heart of the Universe 316 326 333 358 359.
Wanting to reunite with Harley, Link creates a separate mortal incarnation. Stranded far from Earth, that incarnation reaches Knowhere, wins the Blood Fist Arena’s million-credit prize, and buys the earliest available ticket home 364 367 369 370.
Appearance
Link’s presentation changes with his circumstances, from an Arkham patient to a polished businessman and, later, a combatant recognized on Knowhere 1 37 127 369.
- Wears a loose blue-and-white striped patient’s uniform when he awakens in Arkham 1.
- Later wears a signature black trench coat; on Themyscira, he removes it to reveal a tailored shirt 127 142.
- His eyes briefly show platinum light after he fuses Kryptonian and Olympian powers 154 155.
Personality
Link favors control over impulsive retaliation. He accepts a lost bar rather than fight Black Mask on unfavorable terms, recruits Spike by addressing the gang’s needs, and uses a vast payment to turn a confrontation on Knowhere into a business negotiation. He is also willing to manipulate allies and enemies alike, as Talia discovers after he uses the League of Assassins to ignite a conflict in Gotham 17 28 57 214.
His pursuit of power does not erase his attachment to Harley. He repeatedly treats her as a partner rather than a subordinate, refuses to sacrifice her for the Soul Stone, and later chooses the Ultimate Check-In with her wish in mind. In his separate incarnation, news of her life on Earth gives him a clear goal: getting home 16 38 283 359 369.
