The Collector Taneleer Tivan's residence was less a home than a private museum of the cosmos.
When Link and Harley Quinn followed the maid Carina inside, even the well-traveled pair couldn't help marveling at the sight before them.
The space was vast, with a distinctly postmodern design. Countless transparent cubic display cases shimmered with halos of energy, floating at different heights like stars and forming a dazzling forest of glass.
Each case held a "curiosity" from the depths of the universe.
"Wow, Puddin'! Look at that!" Harley pointed excitedly at a case containing a golden Labrador in a battered Soviet spacesuit. The dog seemed to understand her. When she pointed at him, he wagged his tail, a depth of intelligence in his eyes that belied his appearance.
"That is Cosmo, a test subject from the former Soviet space program. An accident gave him powerful telepathic abilities," Carina explained with a smile, as though describing an ordinary piece of furniture.
Cosmo, head of security at Knowhere... Looks like he's still just a captive pet.
Link felt nothing in particular. His gaze passed over the dog and settled on a larger display case.
Inside, a huge golden cocoon pulsed slowly. Strange patterns of energy flowed across its surface, as though a powerful life were growing within.
Adam Warlock's cocoon... That old bastard really has collected some good stuff.
Link had no interest in these future heroes and tyrants. To him, they were still unhatched "eggs," worth far less than anything that could increase his power right now.
His gaze moved on, taking in creatures he had only encountered in myths or top-secret files: a dark elf frozen in ice, a Kronan stone man with his limbs severed, and several chattering Howard the Ducks...
"I bet these cages aren't all that sturdy, huh?"
