Maeve was following right behind them, struggling to keep up with Lin Mo's exhaust fumes, though in truth Lin Mo had a bio-field so there was no such thing as exhaust fumes.
Joanna looked up at Lin Mo again.
"Why don't we fly back on our own?"
"Do we have to wait for her?"
At their speed, getting back to school would take no time at all. Instead, they were flying at a crawl for Maeve's sake.
Joanna felt she could fly several laps around Maeve without even trying.
"She only just learned to fly."
Lin Mo sounded a little helpless. Leaving her behind would be going too far. He didn't mind doing that to an enemy, but Maeve was their teammate, after all.
"Let's give her a little help."
Joanna blinked.
"But she can fly now, can't she?"
"Knowing how to fly and being good at it are two different things."
Lin Mo glanced back at Maeve.
"What if we fly too fast and she loses us?"
More than Maeve falling out of the sky, Lin Mo worried she would get lost.
This wasn't an age when you could pull out your phone, tap the screen, and bring up a map. A phone that could make calls and send texts was already considered fully equipped.
If Maeve had to fly back alone, Lin Mo suspected she would circle New York several times before finding the right direction.
She might still be out looking for the school by the time he and Joanna woke up.
"So let's take it slow."
"We can speed up once she's used to it."
After hearing him out, Joanna looked back at Maeve.
Maeve was concentrating hard on adjusting her flight path. She really didn't look like someone they could leave to her own devices.
