Background / History

Lin Mo arrives in The Boys world as a newborn with a Kryptonian bloodline and memories of another life. Vought finds him and takes him to an underground research facility. After his body breaks down an experimental V5 injection, researchers mistake his innate durability for a Compound V success and designate him SOL-0. He lets them believe his abilities are limited and manageable, expecting that cooperation will keep him alive long enough to grow stronger in sunlight 2 3 6.

Before his arrival, Lin Mo is struck by lightning while standing near a window during a thunderstorm after complaining about The Boys’ ending. The system places him in a newborn body modeled on Kal-El’s Kryptonian bloodline, but most of its powers remain sealed. He awakens in a rain-soaked garbage pile, where a Vought research executive discovers him after the system enters hibernation because of insufficient energy 1.

At age three, Vought introduces him to Joanna, designated HL-01, hoping he can become a means of controlling her. Lin Mo instead forms a genuine bond with her. Because she cannot easily injure him, he can teach her to moderate her strength through contact and clear feedback. As they grow up, he challenges her willingness to use lethal force and encourages her to question Vought’s claims. The company nonetheless uses their attachment to secure cooperation with tests and training 9 10 18 20 23 35.

His decision to help Joanna develops from seeing her as an isolated child rather than merely an altered version of the character he remembers. On his eighteenth birthday, the long-silent Dimensional Shuttle System activates and rewards him for changes he has already made to the world, particularly Joanna’s altered path. Soon afterward, he reveals how much power he has hidden, destroys the Bunker and its research records, and spares some staff who had helped them. He then negotiates with Vought from a position of strength: he and Joanna will attend Godolkin University, while he uses the company’s reach to build influence 39 51 52 53.

At Godolkin, Lin Mo’s restrained performance in ability testing still draws campus-wide attention. He works with Joanna and Maeve to expose the power behind the university’s underground operation. After Thomas Godolkin’s death, Lin Mo plans to use Vought to handle the recovered research rather than simply hand it over or abandon it 64 67 101 112.

During the investigation, he identifies Thomas’s control of other Supes as a potential future threat to Joanna and seeks to prevent him from developing it further. He also recognizes the captive infant Marie Moreau and arranges for her removal from the underground base. Afterward, Vought publicizes footage of the ruined facility and rescued victims, increasing his recognition and social-media following 81 83 87 106 112 126.

Information about Original Compound V leads Lin Mo to visit Vought headquarters with Joanna and Maeve, then seek Clara outside New York. His primary interest in the drug is strengthening Joanna rather than extending his own life or enhancing his Kryptonian body. After obtaining the doses, he encourages Joanna to take one and later offers another to Maeve, warning her of the risks. Joanna accidentally kills Clara, whose death earns him a further system reward 110 124 133 137 139.

Lin Mo subsequently tests solar absorption outside Earth’s atmosphere. Joanna accompanies him into space but returns to Earth when she cannot keep up with the journey toward the Sun. He continues alone, reaches the Sun, and enters its outer layer to expose himself to increasingly intense energy. His later routine centers on sunbathing, spending time with Joanna, and occasionally appearing in Vought advertisements. Over the following years, he becomes publicly known as Superman, a codename he chooses because of his Kryptonian bloodline and costume. Although he makes relatively few public appearances, his successful rescues and approachable behavior establish a reputation for reliably resolving crises. Ashley serves as his agent and public-relations handler, while he takes an interest in Vought’s selection of new members for The Seven, recognizing Starlight and Firecracker among the finalists 154 156 160 164 165.

After Robin is gravely injured, Lin Mo promises Hughie that she will recover and arranges treatment at Vought’s private hospital. He begins investigating an improved Compound V as a means of repairing her body, asks Hughie to serve as a test subject, and hopes to bring him to his own side rather than see him follow his remembered path with Butcher. He also explains the risks of Original Compound V to A-Train and gives him a dose after securing the agreement of Joanna and Hughie 175 179 181 182 183 187.

With access to Vought’s laboratories and research records, Lin Mo applies his Super Brain to medicine, genetics, and Compound V development. He prioritizes improving the drug over immediately intervening in Madelyn Stillwell’s creation of superterrorists, regarding a safe means of granting powers broadly as a potentially much larger change to the world. He later tells Maeve that the improved drug should transform Robin’s body and repair her injuries, while treating the connection between a recipient’s desires and resulting powers as a hypothesis rather than an established rule 191 193 197.

Vought initially sees Lin Mo as an ordinary-looking Asian child; by adulthood, his appearance attracts attention at Godolkin 5 70.

Once the system returns, he becomes more openly defiant, but still chooses practical arrangements over breaking with Vought entirely 3 6 49 52 60.

He is affectionate with Joanna without accepting all her judgments. He teaches her that strength does not give someone the right to kill over a minor offense or a defeated threat, and he reassures her during disagreements rather than withdrawing from her. His restraint has limits: he kills the people he holds responsible for their treatment in the Bunker while sparing those who showed them kindness 23 29 30 52.

He does not initially regard himself as a savior or claim to possess Clark Kent’s sense of justice. His effort to guide Joanna begins as a mixture of sympathy, curiosity, and personal interest in seeing whether a better upbringing can change Homelander’s future. Later, his treatment of ordinary people and practical rescue work nonetheless earn him a reassuring public image 8 160.

His use of Vought is deliberately reciprocal: he accepts its publicity and resources while recognizing that Edgar and the company expect to profit from him. The system originally gives him his Kryptonian bloodline and then enters hibernation shortly after his arrival. Its later interface lists the System Mall, dimensional travel, and World Anchoring among its unlocked functions. He also has access to System Space, from which he retrieves a syringe of Original Compound V for A-Train 187.
