Nara Tsukimi stood alone, slowly closed his eyes, and sank his mind completely into the Tara Mask.
When he had unlocked the second batch of Shadowkhan, their maximum range had been only two kilometers. Once that batch was more than halfway unlocked, the range had expanded to four kilometers, far beyond the detection limit of an ordinary sensory ninja.
Now, with the third batch of Shadowkhan unlocking, his shadow domain had undergone a dramatic leap in power.
Its radius had jumped to sixteen kilometers.
The vast Forest of Death had a radius of only ten kilometers. From the Central Tower to the outermost edge of the woods, his Shadowkhan could now cover every inch of it.
At a thought from Tsukimi, hundreds of Shadowkhan soldiers awakened from the ground and the shadows of trees throughout that sixteen-kilometer radius. They turned into dark shapes and spread out silently, beginning a thorough sweep of the entire Forest of Death.
A vast stream of information poured into his mind. Every movement in the forest was clear to Tsukimi.
Still, he felt a tiny twinge of disappointment.
His shadow domain had made a tremendous leap in range, but the limit on how many Shadowkhan he could summon had not changed.
Each type of soldier was still capped at fifty.
Two or three hundred Shadowkhan were plenty for a fight. But for a wide-area search like this, the shortage in numbers became obvious.
And that was with a range of only sixteen kilometers. Based on past experience, the domain would expand again once the third batch was more than halfway unlocked. Spreading a few hundred Black Shadow Soldiers across an even larger area would leave them stretched thinner still.
He wondered whether fully unlocking the third batch and completely awakening the power of the Tara
