"New Friends"

When Mo Hei seized his hand so quickly and excitedly, Mo Bai was surprised, but even more than that, he was happy.

Perhaps it was because they still shared so many traits despite their separation, or perhaps it was because Mo Bai had reached out to help him.

Either way, the bond between them had not been completely severed.

But when Mo Bai saw the dependence in Mo Hei's eyes, he began to worry about something else.

Would Mo Hei cling to him as he had before and lose the ability to stand on his own?

That would not necessarily be bad. Mo Bai did not mind being depended on.

But if that happened...

Mo Bai remembered the resentful look on Mo Hei's face in Void Matter Space when he learned he was about to become independent.

Wouldn't that make Mo Bai selfish?

By enjoying Mo Hei's dependence, he would be stifling his independence and growth.

And that was why, when they separated, Mo Hei's eyes had held not only resentment, but also confusion and helplessness.

He had never lived on his own before. That was why those feelings had surfaced.

Mo Bai let out a breath.

While Mo Bai was lost in thought, Mo Hei released his hand.

"You're my first real friend! So I'll never depend on you too much! Friends are supposed to help each other, after all."

With that, he pointed a finger toward Mo Bai's eyes and flashed a bright smile.

Mo Bai had almost never seen him make that expression before.

Maybe this really is an opportunity...

Still, it was a little funny: someone who had lost his memories and someone the whole world had forgotten had become "new friends."

"Which movie did you learn that line from?"
