Background / History

Mo Hei originated as an imagined companion from Mo Bai’s lonely past. In the Academy’s Dark Side, the Sonoro absorbed Mo Bai’s negative thoughts and Cursed Energy and gave that reflection a body. Mo Hei attacked Mo Bai out of resentment, believing Mo Bai had abandoned him after making friends. Mo Bai defeated Mo Hei but accepted him as another part of himself rather than killing him 39 41 257.

Mo Hei subsequently lived within Mo Bai’s Ten Shadows Technique. Their relationship became a close, often teasing companionship, though Mo Bai’s reluctance to risk Mo Hei in battle limited his combat experience. Mo Hei later gained an existence apart from Mo Bai and arrived at Star Torch Academy without his memories. Mo Bai let him experience Academy life independently, then renewed their friendship 46 114 172 182 183.

At the Academy, Mo Hei formed friendships with Siglica and Dania. A confrontation with the Remnant Star Society President awakened Mo Hei’s own Ten Shadows Technique, but summoning its Shikigami brought back conflicting memories and caused him to collapse. Afterward, Mo Hei continued to choose his own actions—including helping Dania—while making clear that he wanted to remain beside Mo Bai. The two eventually joined the Black Shores together 192 204 205 269 288 294.

Mo Hei wants to be valued as a person rather than treated as a disposable summon—or as someone who can only follow Mo Bai. He admires stories in which an ordinary person grows stronger through effort. His wish for independence does not diminish his attachment to Mo Bai: after experiencing life apart, he chooses to stay by his side 114 182 183 288.
