Signals in the Void Matter, Reunited

"If Positive Energy doesn't work, I'll try Cursed Energy..."

When Positive Energy proved useless against the Void Matter, Mo Bai began gathering Cursed Energy in his hand.

His Cursed Energy had been able to strike Void Matter before. It had simply been less efficient than Positive Energy, so he had stopped using it to clear Void Matter.

Boom!

After locking onto his target, Mo Bai released his Cursed Energy and struck the mass of Void Matter.

Whoosh—

Seeing that some of the Void Matter had dissipated, Mo Bai knew Cursed Energy attacks still worked well enough.

Then why didn't Positive Energy work?

Though his attack had succeeded, his earlier question remained.

Hum—

As Mo Bai watched the Void Matter thin, he caught a faint flash of light within it.

It lasted only an instant, but he had seen it.

It might be a clue to what had changed in the Void Matter.

Crackle—

With that thought, purple lightning surged around Mo Bai as he drew back an imaginary bowstring.

"Nue."

Crackle!

Borrowing Nue's power, Mo Bai condensed the lightning into an arrow and drove it straight through the mass of Void Matter.

By now, he could control both his Cursed Energy output and how efficiently he used it almost at will.

That meant he could deal the most damage with the least Cursed Energy.

Hum—

When the Void Matter dispersed, a wisp of golden frequency appeared within it. The flash Mo Bai had glimpsed had not been his imagination.

Whoosh!

But as Mo Bai approached the frequency, it suddenly rushed toward him.

Most people would instinctively dodge or defend themselves when something charged at them without warning.

Yet as the frequency rushed toward him, Mo Bai also saw the Void Matter around it erupt into motion again.
