When Be'lakor found Aaron, he was inside Sune's temple, alone, with his back to the Original Daemon Prince.
The fighting in the city had not disturbed this hero acclaimed by tens of thousands in Cormyr, the Viscount of the Sunset Lands renowned throughout the Realms, the young man nicknamed Kingmaker. Many who met Aaron were astonished that he was not yet twenty, but even more were astonished by how rapidly his strength had grown.
By now, Aaron had blessed the floor of Sune's temple with Life Wind magic, and the pool had been filled with the purest Jilun's Water. A thin mist still surrounded the temple. Aaron stood there, watching Be'lakor approach from outside.
After a series of battles, the Original Daemon Prince's presence seemed even more imposing. The arm that had crushed Lathander's divinity was covered in burns, and Lathander's divine power had seared his black claws into a bloody mess. Yet those savage, fresh wounds did not make Be'lakor look weak. Instead, they displayed his power in all its glory.
"Your little false god can't protect you anymore, lucky one." Be'lakor opened his hand toward Aaron, letting fragments of the Sunstone fall between his fingers. "The so-called deities of this world don't seem all that powerful."
Remnants of Lathander's divine power drifted through the air, their light gradually swallowed by shadow.
Aaron turned around. He stared at the stone fragments falling into the pool, a faint gleam flashing through his eyes.
The Sunstone was a sacred relic Lathander, the God of Dawn, bestowed upon his followers. Within it lay a sliver of the Dawn Lord's divinity.
