The once-prosperous Upper City of Baldur's Gate had become a hell of burning green fire. Ruined walls and shattered buildings lay everywhere. The sudden explosion had destroyed nearly half the Baldurian nobles' estates, and the other half teetered on the brink of destruction.
The blast wave hurled thousands upon thousands of mortals into the air. Everyone realized that, at this moment, no matter their station, they had no hope of surviving such a devastating explosion. Only professionals whose constitution approached superhuman levels could barely retain their ability to fight after that first shock.
Screams for help rose constantly from the ruins of the Upper City, while feeble cries drifted from collapsed buildings throughout its neighborhoods. But there was no one left to save these once-mighty, arrogant Baldurian nobles and their families. After the Twin-tailed Comet struck the ground, short, sharp cries began rising from the ruins and sewers, each wave louder than the last.

Amid the unnatural squeaking of millions of rats, armies of Skaven Clanrats emerged from underground. The ravenous Skaven bypassed the city walls and launched their assault within.

The only two places in the Upper City that could still be considered reasonably intact were the Temple District and the High Lord's Hall. The temple of Umberlee, the Ocean Goddess, had suffered the least damage in the attack, and its high priestess had clearly been enraged.
