The Pole Star Encampment lacked its master as always. The Overgod Ao almost never appeared, and the hundreds of seats representing the gods of Realmspace had never all been filled. Many deities had grown accustomed to being absent; they had no intention of attending meetings that did not concern them.

Tyr presided over today's judgment. Two beams of golden light shone from the maimed god's hollow eyes, and the scales symbolizing fairness stood before the court. Tyr felt helpless and deeply reluctant about this trial, but the plaintiff's demand had left him no choice but to attend and deliver judgment.

The Just One had transformed the Pole Star Encampment into a courtroom. The deities attending the hearing stood on either side, confined behind bright red railings. About half the Greater Deities serving as the jury had arrived.

The plaintiff was the returned Goddess of Wealth, Waukeen, and the defendant was the Goddess of Joy, Lliira. The two goddesses had finally fallen out and taken their dispute over delegated divine power to court. Waukeen had discovered that, during her absence, Lliira had used her authority over Waukeen's divine portfolio to issue oracles and other inducements, converting at least thirty percent of Waukeen's clerics into her own.

The Lady of Wealth had not originally intended to take things this far, but Waukeen believed she had been humiliated during the Golden Apple incident.
