Before the elves set foot in the Realms, dragons had ruled the land. They had established two draconic city-states in the Far Sea Marshes and the Tun Marshes to worship Bahamut. Although the Platinum Dragon God paid little attention to the dragons of the Realms, he occasionally appeared to grant divine magic and encourage them-primarily gold and silver dragons-to establish nations of their own.

Bahamut had been angry, but since the Platinum Dragon God had never cared particularly deeply about the Realms, he had turned his attention elsewhere.
Two events had changed that. First, after the Time of Troubles, Gairos-Dragonbane, a legendary paladin of Ilmater, had happened upon Bahamut while traveling the planes. No legendary dragon species had entered into the High Dragon Pact with a mortal in many years. And according to Aegir's frequent boasts, this young dragon had quickly amassed wealth equal to that of an adult or even an old dragon.
So Bahamut had decided to return to the Realms, and his attitude was exactly what one would expect of the Platinum Dragon God.
This pact is worth a fortune. We dragons are willing to work with you. That alone is an honor.
