The air beyond the pyramid's entrance was neither dry nor cold. A wave of humidity washed over them, and the temperature held steady at a pleasantly cool level. Clearly, some kind of temperature-control system was still operating inside the pyramid.
"You... speak the serpent tongue?" the female Rogue asked in surprise. "Do you have serpentfolk blood?"
"No, I'm entirely human... probably." Aaron gave a self-deprecating smile and pointed at himself. "It's one of the abilities granted by my Sorcerer talents."
Tzeentch's Oracle allowed him to impersonate other deities. He had used Tzeentch's power to deceive the stone statues guarding the entrance.
Eleanora wanted to say more, but Aaron raised a hand to silence her. "Look at this."
Huge murals lined both sides of the passage leading deeper into the pyramid, painted in an ancient style with special pigments.
"Is this... the history of the Serpentfolk Empire?" The female Rogue looked deeply interested. "Fascinating. What does it say?"
"Can't you read it?" Aaron studied the murals carefully. The first two depicted events from before the founding of the Serpentfolk Empire.
"I don't know the serpent tongue!" The female Rogue was genuinely interested. "You do, my clever Viscount. Tell me about it. I want to hear."
This woman... certainly knew how to make a man feel good. Still, she did not seem interested in him, and Aaron was not interested in her either. Given their current partnership, however, there was no harm in explaining it once.
Everyone had a desire to show what they knew and express themselves.
