Background

Nearly eighty Ghost Maids serve at Lolise’s secluded castle. They kept it clean during her long absence; about half were victims of the Illusion Demon Forest. The spell used to make ghost servants requires both a deceased person’s soul and remains 24 42 44.

One maid follows Zheng Yichen into the forest after he burns a tree, warning him that its smoke has affected a nearby group of students. She guides him to them and helps watch over the group while they recover 24 25 26.

Appearance

The maids appear as pale, translucent figures that can rise through the castle floor and fade from sight. The maid who accompanies Zheng Yichen looks more solid at night 24.

• Some look like young girls, though even the youngest appear to have existed for at least fifty years 33 42.
• Their clothing does not strike Zheng Yichen as conventional maid attire 24.

Abilities & Skills

Ghostly Movement and Communication

• Ghost Maids can move between physical and incorporeal states 44.
• They communicate with Zheng Yichen through gestures; their communication with one another makes no sound he can hear 24 33.
• Sunlight does not appear to trouble the maid accompanying Zheng Yichen 26.

Combat and Magic

• The maid guiding Zheng Yichen beats back a hostile gray ghost and later freezes a student group’s teacher up to his neck before he can attack 25 29.
• Lolise has trained the maids to fight: more than twenty are Mages and nearly fifty are warriors. All but six of the young maids are described as combat-capable 45.
• One maid uses a simple illusion to display a playing card while explaining that she lost a game 38.

Castle Work

• The maids clean the castle daily, cook for its residents and polish Zheng Yichen’s scales—even when he asks them not to 31 33 41.
• They help test Zheng Yichen’s Magic Weapon Summoning Tome, using its weapons enough to improve their quality 44 45.

Equipment / Items

• Milky-white bead — A maid uses it to clear the lingering mental effects of the Illusion Demon Forest from a group of students 29.
• Contract Document — A maid brings Zheng Yichen a binding secrecy contract for the students 28.
• Brooms — Young maids brandish them while chasing Zheng Yichen out of the castle after his weapon-making explosions leave a mess 42.

Relationships

• Lolise — The maids bow to her and maintain her castle; she trained them to fight 24 42 45.
• Zheng Yichen — They care for him at the castle. One guides him through the forest and helps him deal with the students affected by his fire 24 25 31.
• Petty’s student group — A maid helps clear the group’s hallucinations and subdues their teacher when he takes an attack stance 28 29.

Trivia

• The maids play card games Zheng Yichen taught one of them. He discovers their games after noticing a maid upset about losing 38.
• Several young maids use Zheng Yichen’s back as a place to play while he sleeps 38.
