A Day in the Life of Shien, Deputy Envoy of the Reconstruction Institute (Part Two)

By the time Shien left the Wounded Soldiers' Camp, the sky was fully bright.

Maren followed behind him, carrying the newly completed inspection ledger for the Wounded Soldiers' Camp.

The first part of the ledger recorded the wounded soldiers' recovery, while the second listed matters the Reconstruction Institute needed to keep working on. The relevant entries had already been marked.

As planned, the two headed straight for the Armaments Directorate after leaving the camp.

The outer Assembly Line had entered a period of stable operation.

Shien skimmed a few pages of shipment records. After confirming that output, rework rates, and other figures met expectations, he handed the records back to Maren. "The figures look right. Have them keep going, and send the full report to the Reconstruction Institute this afternoon."

"Yes." Maren quickly noted it in the ledger.

With no other problems to address, Shien did not linger in the outer area. He headed deeper into the Armaments Directorate.

Maren hurried after him with the ledger, and the two continued down the production passage.

The outer Workshops were still busy. Steam Hammers rose and fell, their dull, rhythmic pounding never ceasing.

Transport devices ran smoothly along their tracks. Craftsmen pushed packed wooden crates toward the sealing station, while clerks checked each item against their records. The whole area moved like a production line honed by long use.

Everywhere he looked, people were busy at their stations, their movements practiced and precise, with hardly a wasted motion.

The passage stretched inward. Voices gradually faded, and the heat of the standard Workshops fell behind them as the air in the stone corridor turned cool.

Fire lamps on the walls cast a gentle glow. Sealed materials and experimental samples stood along both sides of the passage, with numbered test components appearing here and
