Background / History

Han Yu was once an innocent, lively girl and Xiao Meng's childhood friend. When Xiao Meng's boyfriend confessed that he had only approached Xiao Meng to get close to Han Yu, Han Yu rejected him and cut off her waist-length hair, which he had admired. She tried to warn Xiao Meng, but Xiao Meng believed the boy's account instead. 268

Xiao Meng accused Han Yu of seducing her boyfriend and ended their friendship, leaving Han Yu devastated in the rain and ill afterward. Xiao Meng later sent an apology letter, but Han Yu neither forgave her nor replied. 269 270 Xiao Meng ultimately died after jumping from a Ferris wheel with the boyfriend; Han Yu's guilt over ignoring the letter left her with a lasting aversion to Ferris wheels. 271

The betrayal reshaped Han Yu into a cold, proud, and calculating young woman who treats friendship as transactional and fears being hurt again. 270 At Huihuangxing Academy, she formed a close public friendship with He Xue, initially regarding her as an entertaining “pet” and using the connection to approach Wu Liang. 46

Appearance

Han Yu is a petite, strikingly beautiful girl whose sweet appearance contrasts sharply with the pressure she projects when angered. Her date attire—light makeup, a silk shirt, and a high-waisted plaid skirt—emphasizes both her youthful and carefully cultivated charm. 220

  • Deep purple, amethyst-like eyes. 52 110
  • Jet-black, lustrous hair, described as slightly curled. 266
  • Subtle eyeliner and long eyelashes. 52
  • Often carries a small shoulder bag and favors small leather shoes. 183
  • Previously had waist-length hair before cutting it after Xiao Meng's boyfriend confessed to her. 268

Personality

Han Yu presents herself as lively, cute, and approachable when it benefits her, but can immediately become cold, contemptuous, and intimidating. Her classmates are repeatedly shocked by the gap between her harmless exterior and her queen-like, oppressive demeanor. 72 184

Her attachment to Wu Liang begins as an intense, possessive obsession. She regards Ning Shuang, Su Qian, and He Xue as love rivals and reacts strongly to women who grow close to him. 104 106 Though clever and socially perceptive, she can be cruel for amusement, particularly during her initial treatment of He Xue. 46 106

Han Yu's pride makes her reject pity, avoid admitting vulnerability, and resist acknowledging how deeply she values others. 243 272 However, her actions increasingly reveal genuine concern: she protects He Xue, reconciles with her, tends to Yao Shi after her injury, and openly worries for both Yao Shi and Wu Liang. 184 290 471 484
