Background

Li Chenjing is the only son of Prime Minister Li Xiangfan and the younger brother of Li Danxin. His father raised him for statecraft, intending him to inherit a central role in government rather than pursue personal attachments. Chenjing also grew up close to Emperor Zhao Huangpu, whose accession Li Xiangfan had helped secure 26 45 100 221.

At Dongxu Mansion, Chenjing leads the Six Ministries Student Council. As Minister of Personnel, he has substantial influence over which academy students are recommended for court posts. His entrance examination tests practical judgment rather than memorized learning, drawing his attention to Zhu Bafu 20 24 51.

Appearance

Chenjing is described as pale and handsome, with long black hair and striking eyes. His composed bearing makes him difficult for others to approach 1 3 30.

Personality

Before losing his memory, Chenjing is controlled, severe, and politically perceptive. He can silence opponents with a pointed remark and expects discipline at Dongxu Mansion 24 30 51. His father’s expectations help explain his guarded manner, though Chenjing eventually resists being treated solely as an instrument of the Li family’s plans 221.

After his fall into the water, the version Zhu calls “Young Master” is more openly affectionate, playful, and possessive. He fears that recovering his memories will cost him Zhu’s affection. Zhu, in turn, struggles to reconcile this emotionally direct person with the distant Lord Li she knew before 44 57 84. Once his memories return, Chenjing’s feelings remain, but his reserve—and later his decision to impersonate the Young Master—makes trust between them difficult 168 178 202 215.
