Appointment and Authority

• A Deputy General may command guards, lead a unit of roughly one hundred Captains, and receive a force of several hundred Captains for a mission. The rank also permits decisions in battle as circumstances demand 69 73.
• Yang Xiao’s appointment came with a waist token, robe, cloak, hair crown, medicinal allotment, private courtyard, and broader access to the Technique Pavilion 69 71.
• Missions can involve powerful demons, martial sects, and influential clans. Deputy Generals in the Demon-Slaying Battalion usually operate independently and must establish their standing through victories and Merit 75 86.

• Formal appointment does not guarantee a unit’s respect: veteran Captains challenged Yang Xiao’s authority despite seeing his Deputy General token. He established command by defeating their challengers and setting rules for orders, Merit distribution, and battlefield discipline 74 75.
• Deputy Generals can be held accountable by a Demon Suppression General. Han Dingshan’s case was referred to Lu Changgeng with casualty records and evidence of his misconduct 117 118.
