The seventeenth floor of Hongyuan Trade Tower.
Smoke filled the conference room. Several men in suits sat around the table, none willing to speak first.
The shredder had been running all afternoon. Even shredding alone wasn't enough—they had lit a fire to burn the documents, too.
An acrid, scorched smell drifted from the copy room at the end of the corridor, but not one of these normally pampered men complained.
The IT staff had been confined to the server room, formatting one hard drive after another.
"Has everything been cleaned up?"
After a long silence, the man at the head of the table finally spoke, his voice tight.
"The paper records are mostly burned... we're deleting the digital files, but some of the backups..."
"No buts!"
The man slammed his palm on the table.
"Move fast! Everything has to be completely erased! Even physically destroying it isn't enough! Who knows what tricks those Magical Girls have?"
"And remember what I told you."
"Whether it's the Public Security Officers or the Magical Girls asking, tell them business is struggling and it's normal staff turnover! Nobody admits to ever seeing those contracts! Keep your mouths shut. Do you understand?!"
"But the Magical Girls..."
Someone offered a quiet reminder.
"Those two Magical Girls already visited Old Song's family today... I heard they found something, too."
A deathly silence fell over the conference room.
After a while, the man at the head of the table gritted his teeth.
"What are you panicking for? So what if they found something? They signed those contracts themselves, with their own hands! There's nothing wrong with that!"
"They're heading here now, right? Wang, take a few people downstairs and stop them. Give them a proper welcome."
"Show them around the work area. Be polite, lay on the charm.
